The Raven Duchess is a manhwa that provides commentary on common tropes present in historical fiction and tries to address them by giving us a strong and independent female lead, one who is capable of knocking down criticism while setting a strong example for her peers.  There's definitely potential here and I am excited to see it come to fruition. I love fantasy stories where the main character has a specific niche skill that isn't the standard and this is the first jewellery appraiser that we've seen!  The FL here is exemplary in becoming a trailblazer in her empire. Most women only have value when they are married to a man and commonly do not hold positions in business or have power outside of their husbands. She disregards all of that. Our FL puts her very own jewellery store, learns the craft and hones her skills to compete against the most valuable appraisers in the empire. She can tell precious gems apart with little to no hesitation and has enough business sense to guarantee good sales. Now it's interesting to pair her with a male lead who's almost her complete opposite. Although he isn't less accomplished than her, they clearly have very contrasting personalities. He's bubbly, fair-haired, and charismatic. This ML is the type of man that draws your eye when he enters the room, the type of person that people flock towards without ever being touched by anyone else. He has power and riches in his hand and yet he wields them sparingly and only if there is something for him to gain. Despite that, he isn't perfect. There's much to uncover about him and the manhwa will show us in due time his true personality.  This man isn't my type but he sure is the FL's. The art style is okay and I have no complaints so far. I feel excited to see how the story will progress. Contract relationships in manhwas are interesting to see especially if both parties have no plans of falling in love with each other until they, inevitably, do.  Other things that I did enjoy are the actual facts and information about jewel restoration and gem characteristics. I've never bothered looking into jewels because they aren't my thing IRL but this one really makes you think about them. Should you read this? Strong suggestion to give it a try especially if you want something with a slower pace when it comes to romance.  Reviewed at Chapter 15.
