Synopsis: Dirty Reverie is an adult manhwa by Black Swan, whose main plot focuses on a virgin female ghost named Mihyang who makes it her objective to find a suitable man to give her virginity to, in order to move on into the afterlife. The target of her ambitions is a young man named Woorim who, due to his girlfriend’s vow of celibacy and his desperation, succumbs to Mihyang’s advances. In trying to keep his relationship with the ghost a secret, Woorim attracts rumors and suspicion from his girlfriend and friends, which leads down to a whole rabbit hole of friendship/relationship conundrum.
Review: The first thing I noticed was the unique art style. In my little experience reading manhwa’s, I’d never seen something like it. I wasn’t sure if I liked it at first, but it definitely grew on me. While it’s not my favorite, I do enjoy its uniqueness. As for the story, it started ok as the world and relationship dynamics were being introduced. As I read more and more chapters, everything got better and better. You think that the story will go just one way and then a plot twist is dropped that makes the story 3 times more interesting. Also, the fact that we got backstory and the development of multiple characters brought a lot more intrigue and depth to everything going on. My only problem is that in the end, I was left with some juicy unanswered questions about certain characters. It did feel somewhat rushed at times but I am not really mad at it. A certain amount of ambiguity is an aspect of good storytelling after all. The sex scenes were decent. Lots of kissing that’s for sure. The MC’s lack of performance his “first time” was quite comical; something to be appreciated I guess. My only other take is that I didn’t like the fact that several of the female characters looked really similar, making it confusing at times as to who we were following in the story. More unique attributes would’ve been appreciated. Overall tho, good read. I recommend the manhwa.
