This is one of those series you have to commit to in order to get the pay off you're looking for. I actually dropped it at one point because I was just so tired of the main character's lack of growth and development, but thankfully I came back and gave it another try, and I was rewarded with some wonderful character and relationship developments.
The plot is interesting, the character designs are very fun, and the setting is an interesting choice for the topic of the story- Victorian era England mixed with demons from various cultures. The demons' genuine attachment to William and gradual shift from being loyal to him because of their loyalty to his past life to genuinely caring about who he is now and wanting to be close to him is deeply endearing, and you really just want to see things turn out well for them.
I definitely don't blame anyone who gets sick of William and gives up early- he's painfully stubborn with accepting reality around him, and is surrounded by characters who would love heaven and hell for him but does not appreciate them in the slightest. Thankfully, he does eventually realize how much they've done for him and how ungrateful he's been, and strives to improve himself and save them, and the way his realizations are portrayed are just such a good pay off, I honestly think it's worth the long build up if you're able to tolerate him up to that point.
My literally joy and pride. kinda wish there was little side stories at the end tho 🥲
I liked the initial pitch of the plot, the typical fight between demons and angel. The whole Solomon's soul was a great main plot since as readers we can discover the truth along with the mc. Unfortunately as I continued to read William Twinning made it hard for me to take in the story as a whole. The mc's intellect is one of my favorite parts but how can a man of science be so privy to the truth when it's right in front of him. Maybe if I continued to read more it could get better, but it's been unbearable with the mc and how the mc interacts with other characters.
