Daikenja no Manadeshi: Bougyo Mahou no Susume Manga

Two childhood friends born in a remote village. One of the boys, Alfi, was good at everything, and grew up as a genius (+handsome) with four attributes of magic, and entered the elite magic school as a scholarship student. On the other hand, the other boy, Reese, was a seemingly mediocre and naughty boy who could only use defensive magic for beginners, but in fact he was discovered by a rare Sage and had been educated as a gifted child since he was a child! And Reese enrolls in the elite magic school with one extremely defensive magic, brilliantly destroying the common sense of childhood friends, teachers and students! An uncaring and selfish commoner pushes the aristocrats away and runs up the school caste at explosive speed!

I'm not sure how long this manga can remain interesting, considering that what makes it work is seeing all the weird and unexpected ways that Reese uses defensive magic and an unattributed state. Eventually, I assume the author will run out of ideas for novel things that Reese can do and, at that point, I suspect that this manga's ability to entertain me will fall off a cliff. But at the moment, I have to admit that I have found this manga entertaining. Reese could be seen as an overpowered main character--because fe's so much more powerful than many of the people around fem--but the overpoweredness feels much more acceptable because we know these powers were gained because of cleverness and grit. So far the story has consisted of several duels within an arena, with Reese fighting with a few people who don't believe that fe's deserving of the placement of top student or whatever. The first duel wasn't anything special, but the second and third ones have actually been pretty thrilling (because it isn't certain that Reese will win and fe actually has to struggle). I don't think the harem aspect has been handled all that well and I could easily see that aspect of the manga becoming more and more of an annoyance as the manga goes on. [Reviewed at chapter 16]

Quite cool. The Mc personnality is cool

Unexpectedly good. The characters are very interesting, and I think I can expect it to get better. Still, only 15 chapters as of now, but worth a read.
