If you read this after watching Cloud Atlas (like I did), then it doesn't add anything to the story. If anything, it tarnishes the memory of the movie with its mediocre art and absent plot. One of the pleasures of the movie is recognizing the same actors across the various timelines, and that pleasure is completely removed when it's drawn out in a cartoon. The synopsis calls this manga a prologue, but it acts more as a trailer. Albeit a bad trailer, considering that if I had never heard of the movie before reading this manga, it wouldn't have left me intrigued to go check it out.
