Both series feature people who are thrown into a new environment, after which they have to play a deadly game against strangers, former friends, and former enemies. I found the atmosphere to be similar in both series, so if you like one you might like the other as well.
Goro's life isn't going all that well, and he's frustrated at not being able to act when he thinks he ought to. After watching a cat get hit by a truck and noticing that no one else tried to help either, he goes home to find a strange new invite on his phone. When he accepts it, a tiny oni-like creature named Lall appears and tells him that he's become one of many people vying to become a god. Granted one wish by the app, Goro now has a special power to use to fight against the other competitors.

At least, that’s what the average student Naegi used to think. Having been accepted into a class of 15 students through a lottery system, the boy quickly comes to learn that Hope’s Peak is no ordinary school. In reality, he and the group find themselves trapped inside and learn that the only way to "graduate" is to murder a fellow student and fool everyone in a trial that determines life or death! Led by the whimsically-cruel, teddy-bear-like Monobear, Naegi and the others must do whatever it takes to escape this bizarre, deadly game.
