Both are dream chase stories where the protagonist with an un-fostered talent slowly becomes the best in their chosen field.

Similar main characters with kind dispositions, potentially a little naive, exploring a new passion or interest that's totally out of left field. Watching them both grow through the experience is incredible. Excellent characters and character development, no overt shounen-esque tropes. Both definitely 100% bingeable.

I couldn't help but be reminded of Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist’s Journey as they cover learning about drawing, some issues with assignments, taking art university exams as well as the whole school environment. As for differences, Blue Period has more 'art history' learning points but feels less realistic than Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist’s Journey.

Both these mangas relate to painting for both male leads. While "Blue Period "is more of the general painting side of things and "Lines That Define Me"is more the ink painting side of things, it's all art at the end of the day.

A Nico-Colored Canvas

A Nico-Colored Canvas

Nico Sorano is in the dictionary under “free-spirited”…which makes her an instant celebrity at her art university. But one professor, the career making-or-breaking Kageiwa-sensei, has only a limited tolerance for her aggressively good-natured optimism. Unsurprisingly, Nico isn’t fazed…it just means she’s going to have to make her own way to stardom, with the help of her friend Mitsuki and the inscrutable, notorious Soichiro Togo. No matter what, it’ll be an interesting college debut!

How both manga give of a similar vibes? I think it's mainly because of the mc, both of them are running towards their dream. Bless only has a fre chapters but u can already see that the author shows that the mc have not much of talent, but he's working really hard to his dream. When the mc in bless enters the "school", its similar to when yatora enters his cramschool.

This one isn't for everyone, but if you are looking for another manga where the author is clearly passionate about philosophy whilst maintaining an engaging storyline, this may interest you. These also both also excel at depicting characters that feel like real people.

Blue Period: a complex, realistic (sometimes hard-hitting) slice-of-life that goes deep into aesthetic and perception philosophy. And I mean really deep, it is honestly so impressive a manga has the balls to cover such complexity, and delivers it much better then any dry book or article could.

Escape Room: a complex, thrilling and dark storyline that takes you on a journey of morality philosophy. This goes so much further then typical "grey morality" stories and really pushes (and toys with) the audience itself. The author clearly loves the topic and it shows in this incredibly intelligent, exciting story.

Warning: The content in this is extremely violent, gory and just about any other trigger warning under the sun - this is not some slice-of-life about an art student!
