Black or White (Sachimo) - Reviews

well i don't know why it got negative rewiews but i liked the story very much.

It is a wholesome story about two highschool friends, one shy and other one popular. Then it tells us their career of acting and progressing while embracing the fact that they cannot act recklessly and their passion troubles at the same time. It shows how they give passion to eachother and support eachother while learning to embrace each other.

But it is a sad thing that the manga is not updated for years now. i'd love to complete it. The story had my heart.

Even though I have only completed one (1) chapter, I had to drop this one!  Firstly, what passes as the "story", is all over the place!  Within the span of a single chapter, we get a convoluted juxtaposition of contemporary character introductions and flimsy back stories/background information all combined with a rollercoaster of emotions!  The "dialogue" is VERY weak, though this could very well be due to translation issues.  The art is very scant and meager with a distinctly "sketchy" and "unfinished" appearance.  And, the two main characters are essentially just underdeveloped and stunted cardboard cutouts of literary stereotypes (i.e. the popular, well liked and privileged personality and the misunderstood loner) and are completely forgettable.  Depending on a manga's run, I usually try to read five (5) to ten (10) chapters before passing a definitive judgement however, I honestly could not do that with this particular title!  I truly love yaoi, bara, BL and romance mangas but Black or White (Sachimo) is just a MESS!!!  I advise you to skip this train wreck and read a more captivating manga like Here U Are which handles the topics of popularity, prejudgement and marginalization with much more sensitivity and success.

I really like this one. It's been awhile since I've actually like the characters in a BL, and this has such a good developement for me. It's not for everyone, but the two main characters learning how to navigate their lives and relationship as adults and their fame as actors is a joy to read. Read this if you want a BL with adult characters, learning relationships, and the challenges of hiding from the world.
