Rokuro Okajima is a small-time salaryman who is carrying documents for his company, when the ship he's traveling on is attacked by pirates. Kidnapped, he discovers to his dismay that his employers' main concern is to ensure the documents don't get into the wrong hands, even if it means sending the carrier to the bottom of the sea. Now, with his former life ruined and his kidnappers seeming comparatively friendly, "Rock" decides to join their merry band of mercenaries, and sets out with a new career to the shadier corners of the South China Sea.
Black Lagoon is an amazing Manga and I'm incredibly grateful for the anime leading me here. It has humor, intrigue, deception, action and rumination on big ideas such as life, ideals and order. The slow release schedule is a little hard to manage as it's so thoroughly enjoyable that we are always left wanting more. Each arc builds on the last and the developmental arcs and diversity of the characters are a big part of what makes this manga so great. Shades of gray and everything in-between, you'll end up enjoying how bad the players in this story can be due to their set up and pay off throughout. There are lots of unknows and big players involved that you honestly feel like you are going through the same stakes as the main characters with each undertaking. The artwork is beautiful and the pacing is varied. You might notice the pacing fluctuate as the action comes hard and fast and the scheming, planning and musing is given the time it needs. This works really well as it keeps you invested with enough information on the stakes while hammering you with the action. If you haven't read Black Lagoon, get on it!
This is amazing. It's rare for me to get hooked so fast on a manga. I love the characters, especially Rock and his creepy hobby. But a lot of chapters were wasted on chasing this pyschotic maid and it pissed me off. At least we got to understand our MC in that bundle of madness. A lot of badasserywas displayed in this manga and if Rock and Revy become a thing I will be so happy. All hail chapter 10. I ship it.
