Bokurano: Ours

Bokurano: Ours

When a group of children discover a strange cave at the beach, their lives are forever changed. Inside they meet a man called Kokopelli who seems to have a lot of advanced gadgetry. He invites them to participate in a ‘game' in which they play heroes saving Earth from fifteen giant monsters. To defeat the invaders, he will give them a powerful mecha of black armor. The children eagerly sign the contract, name their new weapon Zearth, and must now take turns to pilot it; but the ‘game' is in fact all too real and the consequences of battle become the stuff of nightmares. With no option to cancel the contract, is there any way to stop the game before it is too late for all of them?

Up front, let me be clear that Bokurano is REALLY REALLY GOOD, and Battle Royale II is average at best. Still, unlike the latter's predecessor, both BRII and Bokurano are quite similar - they each focus on a group of kids who are forced into a horrific situation, die quickly, and don't have a huge amount of gore.

Bloody Junkie

Bloody Junkie

Shouta’s brother is missing, so when the boy received a text message telling him to go to a designated location, he truly believed he might finally learn what happened to his relative. But little did Shouta know that by following this clue he’d wake up in a prison of horrors, forced to participate in Bloody Junkie: a Battle Royale-style game where only one player can survive. Not only must the players kill to survive, they must appease their fans on social media who watch the privately-streamed games on the internet and chat with the competitors. Will Shouta discover the truth behind his brother’s disappearance, or more importantly, survive this bloody competition?

Bloody Junkie is another self-proclaimed "Battle Royale-style" manga, and it too is fairly meh. If you really want more manga like this you could check it out.

Btooom is another Battle Royale-style manga. It's much better than BR2, so if you need another 'play or die' fix in the vein of BR, you could give it a try.

Black Survival is yet another BR-style manga, though it's confusing and isn't that great. Still, if you really want to read all BR-style manga, give it a try.
