"Aoi-kun ni wa kanawanai" or also know as "No match for Aoi-kun" is a fun, short 2 volume manga series that follows a magical girl who has only recently received her magical abilities and an oktaku boy who is a very big fan of magical girl anime.

The thing that attracted me to this manga was the beautiful art. Very detailed and not being secretive about the fact that it takes inspiration from many classic magical girl mangas and shojos.

The story seemed kind of lacking at some parts and the very first arc feelt way too short. I wish they would have given the story more time to unfold and let us get to know the characters more. The shenanigans the characters experienced were funny to read.

The characters were loveable and realistic. They really did feel like 15/16 year olds. There one character I couldn't seem to get invested in: Lily. As the second magical girl making her first appearance in chapter three I thought she would become my favorite character quickly but that wasn't the case at all. I found her character to be sort of hollow, but I'm sure that could have changed if the author had given her more moments to shine as an individual and not "the second magical girl"

Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who liked magical girls, coming-of-age genre and/or a sweet highschool comedy.
