A Short review for a short (yet wonderful) one-shot manga

Afghanistan is a very well made, interesting, and i dare say, cute one shot production. It basically chibifies the modern history behind Afghanistan, Pakistan, America and many other related countries. It is funny and very informative (text beside each page gives the actual history). The pictures do an amazing job telling the story from a chibier perspective.

Story:

This manga covers the pre-Soviet invasion of Afghanistan to the aftermath, all shown through the daily lives of little girls playing around, making "friends" and interacting with one another. To be honest, it would have been more accurate if instead of one of the girls saying "im not your friend anymore!" they all suddenly go Mirai Nikki or School Days on each other. Then it should capture the actual brutality of the events the manga shows.

Art:

The art is very...basic to say the least. There aren't many details and to make the characters chibi, often bodies and other figures are distorted. There are minimal movement effects. The facial expressions were done pretty well though.

Characters:

The manga creatively captures the essences of the countries shown in miniature girl characters, each with their own personality and even development. Characters change over time to match the situation just as the countries did during history.

Overall:

I would definitely recommend this to any fan of history. Even if not a fan, the descriptions on each page will give you a very basic history lesson which the pictures will compliment and make it easier to understand. For those completely unfamiliar to the history of the area, i would say that this manga is a great place to start learning. Highly recommended.
