This is one of the "Fathers" of the cultivation novel genre. Along the likes of Reverend Insanity, Battle Through The Heavens and Doulou Lao. The author is well known for the numerous stories he wrote so we can expect some level of quality. In terms of writing there is almost nothing to say. The way the sentences are structures, as well as the the way the information are given to us is smooth. You can feel the experience behind the pen. So I don't have any complaints on this point.
The story is actually pretty good. It was before the reincarnation and system stuff that we see everywhere now. A genuine random dude that struggles to reach the top of cultivation. Of course with some lucky encounter here and there coupled with hard work. Everythig we like. Unfortunately, there is a trope that the author decided to use which just repeats itself over and over and over and over again. It was really funny in the beginning. I'd say the first 200 chpters or so were relatively okay but you'll slowly start to get irritated.
MC isn't smart by any means, he's just a scammer. You'll definitely like him and want to see him cause trouble wherever he goes. But at a point you'll want him to mature a bit or at least learn from his past mistakes. One thing he does every single time that almost made me drop this novel is that for absolutely no reson he talks loudly to himself. As if that wasn't enough, he only does it when he says some incriminating things. And without spoiling, let's just say that it always end up being known by everybody else in the sect. At some point you expect him to reign in this nonsense but he keeps on doing that. And there are a lot of other similar things he keeps on doing for abslutely no reason. He's a kind of maniac with some serious mental issues. So even if his behavior can be explained I'm getting annoyed by the day.
Aside from that, the world building is not bad. You can see as the story unravels that everything seems connected. I'm pretty sure it will all make sense along the way. So if you can go past some minor annoying details this is a really good story to read.
