Roku de Nashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records

^^As a device for making you hate a bad guy, I think that scene is fine.

I thought it was a sufficiently uncomfortable rape scene that wasn't trying to be sexy or anything. The problem with rape scenes in anime and movies is that you can effectively turn it into a softcore or straight up porn scene and that ruins the emotional impact. I thought it was handled pretty decently and that moment of levity when Glenn walks in was a really good transition from the serious world outside of his influence to the sillier realm when he's around.

I don't think it wasn't well executed or anything. To be honest, compared to like Berserk or Sword Art Online, it was pretty mild. My hatred for random no name guy from this, in no way matches my hate for Griffith or Sugo. Nothing probably ever will.

But, what I was getting at is; If anything, it just seemed kind of random. It probably could of been any other situation, and it would of conveyed the same feel and progression. If you're worried about women wearing revealing clothes, shouldn't you be worried about why a woman being raped needed to be a scene?

It's sadly just something that happens when you have a domineering bad guy and a defenseless woman or girl. He could have beat her (which I actually think, had she been bloodied or beaten might have been more jarring and controversial than the rape scene), tied her up, or something else but rape is just one of those things that happens and we don't have to like as a device or think is proper, but accept that it does happen and as long as the director isn't making it into a rape fantasy or something sexual, it can be used. I'm not really worried about the clothing, it's fan service and it doesn't hinder my enjoyment of the show after you get used to it. I just don't take offense or see anything too wrong with using a rape scene even for a no-name expendable bad guy as long as it's handled as it was in episode 2. It definitely wasn't on par with Sugo (I was pretty numb to the rape stuff in Berserk by a certain point) but it was effective enough in making you feel bad for Sisti and want to see Glenn knock down the door and kick the guys ass.

Episode 2

So, i'm liking the direction this is going. After the first episode, I was thinking this was going to be a slow classroom comedy about an underachieving teacher. But the second episode brought a lot of action and theory to the magical setting. So, i'll keep watching.

I'm actually not too distracted by the uniforms. Yes, they're ridiculous, but I'm more interested in the plotline and Glenn's ideas than what the girls are wearing. Then again, i'm a scorpio/snake/O-blood which makes me a pervert in 3 different cultures, so their outfits just go under my radar, I guess.

Episode 3:

Three episodes in and I'm pretty much sold on the show now.

Totally got better after the meh first episode. While it's still rough around the edges, it manages to be fun and the MC continues to be entertaining. I was also surprised how fast Sistine grew on me. So far, the show feels more like an adaptation of a shounen manga than a light novel and that's really not a bad thing.

Episode 3

Another good episode. I agree with Admiral that it doesn't feel like an LN adaptation. Given the fact the MC has a clear character and isn't a blank slate so the viewer can project themselves onto him, it feels a lot more complete. Sisti is my best girl of the season, she's too freaking adorable. I enjoy the show but I'm sure it will have a lot of generic plot conveniences as it goes along. The stuff about Glenn's past and the backstory of Rumia are pretty much guaranteed to be used for bland convenience as the show goes along.

This episode moved really fast, a ton happened, or at least it felt like it. Even to the point that I felt like I was missing some key information. They kind of just kept moving, assuming we knew what was going on, as the characters all did. Like, I don't even recall any mention of that Huey guy, and yet he was like the main antagonist of this introduction arc?

The battles, and magic casting were quite interesting though. MC is revealing himself to be far more capable than he gave himself credit for. It seems like he has a lot at his disposal, which I guess all in all comes down to the fact that he was an assassin so to speak.

Anyway, overall really good. I hope they slow down just a little to give us some more details, but otherwise, I think this is going to be a fun ride.

He was mentioned in episode one but I agree that they gave absolutely no indication of his being anything more than a guy Glenn was replacing. It feels like an entire volume of an LN was condensed into three episodes so that might explain why it feels like it is missing a well-explained narrative.

MAYBE the extremely revealing school uniform is to expose the students' skin to the magical auras around them so they'll absorb more magic than those who aren't. The reason why this logic doesn't really apply to men would probably be the same reason as the logic behind female armors in RPGs; the less it covers, the more it protects.

...Chances are though, it's just fan service, they're out of ideas when trying to come up with an original uniform design, or the author is just a pervert.

Meh, I'm not complaining tho XD

Besides, I'm more interested in the 'science' behind their magic and story...
I'm guessing that Glenn was some kind of an elite magician/wizard-soldier/mercenary for the military? His quotes on how magic is really great for killing might be something he experienced first hand... Hmm, I wonder what kind of a dark past does this Bastard (facade(?)) teacher have.

hen trying to come up with an original uniform design, or the author is just a pervert.

This would be it, the last scene screamed personal fantasy of the author...............

adult being happily waited on and followed by scantly clad high school girls.

But yeah, I like the magic system, Sensei's slow incantations shows up, and we're shown given enough time he can pull some serious stuff off.............Aside from the interesting magic system, it's playing out like the typical magic school LN, but entertaining so far, no major annoyances.

If you were selling an LN in a Japanese market oversaturated with the things (literally anyone can write one, from some LN's I've read you don't even need a modicum of talent), you'd put a scantily clad cute/hot anime girl on the cover to sell it too. I'm guessing a lot of guys don't even give the prose a shot before purchasing, they just look at the pictures and decide that it's what they're after.

You'd be surprised that I do give the prose a shot... I know that people say "Don't judge a book by its cover" but in the end it's all about first impression (the cover) for most people. I, however, am not one of these 'most people'.

But hey, like I said, I'm not complaining. The story is awesome and the fan service is like an icing on a cake, lol.

Oh, I'm not saying that you might not, I'm just saying that in the Japanese market it is most likely that way because of the prevalence of LN's. I read books because I want to read books, I could care less if there's a scantily clad teenaged girl on the cover, as long as the writer's material is good. But when you have a hundred new LN releases and some authors release a new volume every three weeks or a month, you have to be picky.

Ah, now I see what you mean. Well, touche.

That's what I did with Final Fantasy XIII. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sex sells.

I don't know what I'm more surprised about - The fact that you did that or the fact that I did it too. XD

I don't remember if i mentioned it before, but I'm digging this OP.
That being said, I don't really like the initial scene of this episode, and the general inclinations it might mean.

Despite how much I like Glenn, I really wish his name wasn't Glenn Radars. That name is just too ridiculous. Granted he can be ridiculous himself at times, but...

Wow, I wasn't expecting this Top Hat Mage to be over here flicking his tongue around and using pervy magic. Just wow.

These games are turning out not so bad. I'm still a little worried about the Queen bit. Like, it might become more political, and the pacing of this show is already pretty fast. I don't think it could pull politics off as successfully as like Re:Zero.

My initial expectations are that the action will overshadow the plot of this arc for this episode. It's beyond me how this has pulled ahead of Re:Creators in the rankings.

Well, there was pretty much no action. This series seemed to start stronger than it has panned out... the storytelling seems really choppy. I feel like there are a lot of jump cuts and half the time it seems like there is a lot of assumed information. Like, I should already know some of this stuff, or else the build up was presented poorly? It's hard to believably follow what's happening.

Not enough magic.

Not bad. The ending felt a bit rushed and it has a few character inconsistencies, but at least it's not the narrative abomination that Re:Creators turned into.

Well this show turned out to be a disappointment after the first fun three episodes.

The first story arc wasn't mind-blowing-y good or anything but it was a fun mix of comedy and action. Nothing could come close after that unfortunately so it doesn't really stand out after all from other battle harem magic school shows. The rest of the show was just not as fun and good as the initial three episodes.

The pacing was also all over the place, especially the second half. The last three episodes in particular felt really rushed.

Overall, it had an entertaining start but got boring and less funny in the end.

I give it a 2.5 out of 5.

^pretty accurate assessment...................the last episode was particularly rushed, I thought part of it was a dream sequence on how comically swiftly they blew by it all to realize it was all truly happening.

I appreciated this show, mainly because it's the kind of shallow show I can get all my bros to watch with me.........

aside from that, it's a 2.5/5 through and through.............they hinted at more to the story, but I don't care to see more, this is better off left right were it is...............
