Episode 1 Well, the male lead is different, I guess. Different not necessarily meaning good in this case. Anyway, the characters and setting got introduced this episode and pretty much nothing else happened.
I think the show has enough self aware to make it enjoyable. It's not often you find these typical battle harem anime to have good enough humor alongside the characters.
Episode 01 I'm glad I gave this more than ten minutes before dropping because the second half turned out to be decent and has potential. The protagonist is quirky and hard to get a good feel for - I don't understand him at all, but I guess that's the point? I don't know if it's an all an act or what his deal is, but Spoiler he seemed like a completely different person near the end.
This is on my list, and I was going to wait and see how everyone reacted to at least a couple of different episodes. However, I'm half tempted to start it simply because @Zaig is watching it, and aside from Digimon, we basically never watch the same thing, as far as I know. Or, at least, he never posts in the same forum very much...
Episode 1 First half was a bit meh, but it made up for it in the second half. There's a bit of the same humor I found in stuff like KonoSuba and Quiz Academy. I'm hoping this ends up being a good series for the season.
Episode 1: Spoiler I wasn't expecting much but this actually got a few chuckles from me. I actually got suckered into thinking he'll actually wiped the floor with the girl but thankfully to my surprise the show decided to continue mocking generic magical school tropes. Though there's still a chance the MC will still be OP since the school headmaster did say he got into school at the age of 11 so I'm little worried. There's gotta be a reason why that witch lady thinks he's suitable to be a teacher. It's amusing so far and the comedy is not bad. I hope this continues to be a parody like Konosuba and not end up serious by the end of the season.
EP1 I'll post here what I posted in discus and see if I get the same reply from those that have more knowledge in this series (read the manga).... Spoiler I think this is going the be that rare oddity where the teacher isn't special at all and remains average the entire time. But, he doest bring the best out of everyone. That or he's destined to die due to some history that she caused or is too op and she wants to give him a normal life after living in the mountains for so long cause she managed to suppress whatever it is that was going to kill him. If not kill him then suppress his inner destructive powers, blah blah blah, live a normal life. Get where I'm going? Two other things that have me thinking that something more is coming. Well, three actually. His flashbacks show that whoever he met in the past influenced how he's acting today. Especially with specific girls in his class (on flashback was triggered when she said/did something and he recalled the guy with the long hair) The blonde is someone important. He analyzed her in such a way and tried to ask if he's met her before insinuating that she may be related to someone or actually met her when she was child (me tinks she might be related to the older blonde that takes care of him) Shit...I forgot what 3 was.....ummm....Fuck it. His childhood. We start off with him as a kid. Now he's a grown as man, weak/generic as fuck, and has the "I meant to do that" attitude. WTF happened to him growing up where he had those flashbacks (see #1), lived in the mountains, and had what's her face trust him enough to be a sub? Something is telling me that there is more to him but the other part of me is screaming that this could be a trap and he's actually generic all the way and is just there to help bring out whatever it is that hides deep inside the girls.....no pun intended..lol Teo theory end....for now
ep2 I'm into it now... Spoiler I mean I kind of saw this stuff coming, but it's entertaining, MC might be one of the best from these kinds of things.
These uniforms have to be some of the worst in highschool anime. Exposed stomachs with hooker straps........... Spoiler
Episode 2: Spoiler So I guess this won't be a full-on parody like Konosuba after all but the show is still somewhat fun and entertaining. I'm still not sure if the MC is really OP or he's just that unconventional of a fighter. Well I guess I'm fine with this as long it's not Tatsuya-level of haxery. Besides, that magical punch was a hoot. I gotta admit the system behind the magic in this show was kinda unique. Most fantasy magic-based LN would just give you characters spouting butchered Latin or German just to sound cool but this show actually gives meaning behind the words they use when using magic and I found that pretty neat.
Those uniforms look like what you get if you ordered strippers dressed as school girls. Lap dances are the only things those girls are educated in. Also, you only think they look good, because all the girls are attractive. Imagine going to a school filled with girls that aren't built like sticks with a couple of balloons nailed to their chests. I'd feel sorry for any bigger girls forced to wear that.
^^^I was telling my friend that I guess only girls with supermodel bodies are allowed to join magic school. I hope there's some outlandish explanation for why the uniforms are so revealing.
1 & 2 Spoiler I watched these back-to-back, and I'm definitely on board with this series. I'm really enjoying the humor, and I already like the main character out of the bat. Getting some details in Episode 2, in regards to meaning of the words of a spell, and ways to cheat the words was definitely one of the major things that drew me in. This seems like it's going to be good stuff. Really excited to see where this all goes. The "Magical Punch" bit killed me man. That was one of the best things I've seen in awhile.
I'm still on the fence about this series. The basic premise, the hints so far, and of course the action in Ep 2 are all things that tick a lot of boxes for me. I just don't know if I can overlook the frankly offensive uniform designs. I can put up with some fan service, even though I never witnessed the type of behaviour from the changing room scene in Ep 1 (and I went to an all girls school). Not only are the uniforms offensive, they seriously hinder my suspension of disbelief. No other style of dress so far on screen is remotely similar, discarding so many rules. And I'm including Cecilia in that - her dress is all there, and only shows a modest amount of cleavage. What parent of an illustrious family would agree to dressing their daughter like this? If the female uniforms are like this, why don't the guys wear lederhosen with capes and nothing else? All accepted rules of fashion are broken too. Even with supermodel proportions, this would look ridiculous on any woman going about her daily business. The rule to adhere to is you reveal up top or down below, but never both. Otherwise you need to work with transparency or slits. Mixing too much just doesn't work.
^^^I never thought about the royal family part. That's pretty true. Sisti wears regular clothes at home as we saw in episode 2, so I have to wonder why the school uniforms were decided to be so revealing *cough* fan service *cough*. One question I have is why is it such a problem if guys see your panties if you normally wear a uniform that is an upskirt shot waiting to happen? I've wondered this about a lot of anime.
THIS is a video I did 2 years ago. watch from 2:40 to 3:03 I covered this exact point in a comedic form.
You don't know my preferences! I honestly barely paid attention to what the students were wearing. I guess you guys are better at viewing the whole scene. Usually I'm just focusing on subtitles, and don't pay much attention to the scenery. Wut..? I feel like you're reading far too much into this whole uniform thing. It's an Anime, about a magic school. Is it supposed to seem real? I don't get the impression from these first two episodes that I'm supposed to be believe this school exists somewhere in the far off reaches of the world. It's not like its set itself up like Harry Potter, referencing real locations and showing connecting points between normal society and magic society. Maybe, at some point, the series will delve into that, but I just highly doubt that is part of its agenda. I highly doubt that people who write Anime think too deeply about fashion rules. Otherwise, they'd probably be in a different career. Have you seem some of the stuff Anime characters wear? It's fan service. Just about every Anime utilizes that concept. If anything would be offensive, wouldn't the scene at the end of episode 2... Spoiler The girl about to be raped, be the point of concern?
^^As a device for making you hate a bad guy, I think that scene is fine. Spoiler I thought it was a sufficiently uncomfortable rape scene that wasn't trying to be sexy or anything. The problem with rape scenes in anime and movies is that you can effectively turn it into a softcore or straight up porn scene and that ruins the emotional impact. I thought it was handled pretty decently and that moment of levity when Glenn walks in was a really good transition from the serious world outside of his influence to the sillier realm when he's around.
