Anime-Planet has many default images that are used when we're missing content. For example, user avatars, default anime and manga covers, and more. As a follow-up to our new brand launch, we've been slowly designing new replacements for these default images that fit our style and theme.
Recently, we've also been experimenting with new mascots that have a youkai theme, which we feel fits with our branding goals (whimsical, elegant, Japanese themes and patterns, papercraft). These cuties will join our current mascots and will be much easier to use across the site and our social media channels. So we decided to combine these two elements and launch default images that include the new mascots.
Below, you can see the before and after images for each entry type.
Anime
Our new default anime image uses a Tanuki mascot.
Anime default images are unique in that we designed 4, one for each season. The images will change automatically every 3 months according to the seasons. So, right now, the image is the winter one.
Manga
Our new default manga image uses our lucky cat mascot, but with normal eyes.
Characters
Our new default character image uses a new Oni mascot.
For all of our default images, we've kept them to a shade of gray, because these are meant to be defaults, not showstopper cover images. Of course, the goal is that we can replace any of these default images with real images for all anime, manga, and characters eventually!
We hope you love these mascots and images as much as we do. There are more mascots that we've completed, and will be rolling them out in the future.
