Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury

It's a series tradition. It's a long-running gag that red mobile suits can move three times faster than regular ones.

Oh ho. Excellent.

Ep: 2
I like how Miorine is tsundere wih Suletta. She's says "it's just my dads rules", but really wants to marry Suletta. Sounds sus to me. "She said my tomatoes are delicious. uwu" I know it would end the series unless another antagonist shows up, but I hope her father gets ejected into space soon. The Expanse style.

"Waddya mean there's a Full Mechanics 1/100 Aerial Gundam but no Master Grade yet? Fine, I'll make my own Master Grade!"

maybe this will be the first gundam series i finish*

*not gundam's fault i never finish them, it just feels like life is constantly interfering in a way that makes me never finish gundam series

very gay

very utena

enjoying so far, and as long as it doesn't get too into technical shit i don't care about im onboard

speaking seriously though, miorine's issues with her father already hold a lot of weight in the series, and you can feel her frustration. her father is a bit of an archetype, but honestly? there are people like that in the world... at the same time, real people like that don't tend to make good characters. hm. that said, we've only seen bits and pieces of him as a Guy. he is a Guy. he represents the hypocriticial power structures that bind us and make changes on a seeming whim even if you try to play by their rules...

so i'm curious what his response next ep will be, along with results.

Episode 2:

Okay, I was a lot more on-board with this one. Partly because I felt like I had a better handle on what to expect, as opposed to the neck-shattering whiplash going from prologue to episode 1 in the same day. But not solely.
Y'all have already pretty well covered what I liked about the portrayal of Mr. Asshole Presidad and that whole situation, so no need to harp on that. Beyond that, I like that Miorine is getting to be more than just the tsundere oujo-sama daddy-issues victim now. She's standing up to dear old dad already, and quickly feeling more like an actual character than 90% of characters in the archetype ever get. Basically, for any RWBY fans around, she reminds me of Weiss if Weiss had started at around volume 3 or so and then skipped ahead to volume 7 or 8 by episode 2, which... would probably have allowed me to take more of an interest in her story rather than just learning to tolerate her.
And of course, I'm always on-board for some dope mecha fights, which I'm sure we'll get more of.

Holy fucking shit. I was wondering when we'd see some Aerial Gunpla, but this guy has 0 patience.

The High-Grade kit was released this week and received glowing reviews due to its excellent articulation.

The 1/100 Full Mechanics is next year though but still no word on the Master Grade version.

Well, Suletta wanted to go on dates...and I guess wish granted. Is she gonna be accidentally building a harem or something?

Yeah, I thought Guel would be taking the Jerid Messa route but turns out he's walking the path of Patrick Colasour and you know what, I'm all for it. And the Darilbalde is a lot cooler than I thought. I never expected it to have detachable funnel arms and legs. Ippei Gyoubu always surprises me with his designs. Kinda reminds me of the Trinity from G-Reco, which is also designed by Ippei Gyoubu.

The Trinity is more range-oriented though unlike the more melee-specific Darilbalde but I think they somewhat have the same design principle.

Anyhoo, these duels are cool and all but I hope we get some large-scale mobile suit battles in future episodes.

After three episodes I think its save to say I fucking love this show. Is this my entrance to Gundam? Am I about to go down a new rabbit hole?

Any Gundam vets here wanna pass me the good shit? What's the good Gundam's? What should I be watching? Cause there is like, a million.
Anything that's not part of the UC universe can be enjoyed without any prior knowledge. They're all stand-alone. Iron Blooded Orphans is a great entry point. I'm at work right now but if you want I can make a detailed and comprehensive guide for you later.

I have absolutely no idea what the UC universe means even remotely.

I actually have seen the first season of IBO but I hardly remember it and prob could go for a rewatch and then watch season 2. But yeah I would definitely appreciate that when you get time!

The UC universe or Universal century starts with Gundam Origins > The original 0079 Gundam series (or condensed movies) > Zeta Gundam > ZZ Gundam > Char's Counterattack > Unicorn > Narrative > Hathaway > F91 Gundam > crossbone gundam

This isn't an exhaustive list, but they're the ones that impact the story the most. Gundam Thunderbolt is during the UC 0079 century, but you might want to save it later due to the modern animation. Story wise the UC timeline is the best, but it does take a while to catch up.

Episode three was great. I'm loving these duels, and the creativity on display with the different Mobile Suit designs and abilities, and I'm wondering who else is going to end up challenging Suletta as the series goes on. This anime is a lot of fun.

Also, I noticed this related article earlier and I just wanted to say that I think it's brilliant. I love silly stuff like that.

ep 3
Suletta and Guel's conversation was interesting. It was nice to see them have a genuine little moment that established Guel as something more than just a blowhard bully. There was some interesting body language during that convo too

Tbh I'm not sure where they're going with the romantic threads on this - the teasing element is obvious, but how genuine it is, I'm not sure.

Romance isn't exactly a strong suit of the franchise so keep your expectations low. But who knows? Each series, especially AU Gundam, are handled by different writers so maybe this time it'll be different.

Episode 4:

Slow episode but we get some nice school interaction and a bit of world-building. Chuchu is pretty cool but I still can't get over that weird hair lol.

We get a bit more insight into the whole Spacian-Earthian deal and it's basically like the UC universe but in reverse. The space folks are the big fat cats this time and the Earthies are the oppressed and the second-class. We still have no idea how the government works in this universe. It's all company and corpo shit so far. Is it one unified body like most Gundam anime or are they divided into several blocs like in Gundam 00 and IBO?

Episode 4:
So, I wish I had it in me to sit here and just make jokes about Chuchu's wild-ass poodle hair and call it a day. That sounds like fun, but...

So, between that prologue and scenes like Miorine's dad being a douchenozzle 2 episodes ago or the protests in this episode, and stuff like the depth that scene with Chuchu on SpaceTime adds to her character... I fully believe this show is going to get to what I actually want from it. Eventually...

The problem for me is that we have no idea how long that's going to take, and what we have to sit through in the meantime is starting to make me want to gouge my own eyeballs out.

I don't give a shit about Gundam school (or I guess, anti-Gundam school). I don't give a shit about teenagers dueling over arranged marriages and pride and petty teenage bullshit. I don't give a shit about a hyperbolic literally everyone proposing to Suletta and then turning around and saying "jk not really." I don't want to watch shitty space-racist teenagers be assholes to each other because they're shitty space-racist teenagers. The prologue made me want to give a shit about Suletta, but everything from the moment episode 1 started has undermined that to where I kinda don't anymore, because 90% of it is just contrived anime specialist school nonsense and petty teenage bullshit. At this point I'm ready for the school to just explode, and I'm not particularly bothered what characters we lose with it.

I can't do it anymore. Stalling. If they ever make it out of this goddamned school, I'd be interested in knowing that they do and how long I'd have to tolerate it before getting there so I can make a properly informed judgement actually knowing what to expect whether to try again or bump it to dropped.
