Today we've launched a new set of character tags, joining the hundreds of others in the database. Character tags can be helpful to try to remember an anime or manga you've seen when you only remember something about the cast, for finding cosplay ideas, or simply for finding another title to watch or read. Browse all character tags.

As a reminder, you can post suggestions for characters that are missing specific tags, in the update a character thread. And remember that you can check out recently added tags anytime by using the "date added" sort on the tags page.

    Anthropomorphic

These non-human characters display human characteristics, such has walking on two legs, wearing clothes, or having a human appearance. Common examples in anime and manga include anthropomorphic Animals, Food, or objects. Not to be confused with Animal Characteristics, which describes characters that only have animal-like features, such as a human with a Tail.

    Beastmasters

These characters specialize in taming normal animals to use in battle, for financial profit, or for other reasons. Some may do this by befriending them and forming a bond, while others may use magic or brute force to control the creatures. For those taming more fantastical beasts, see Monster Tamers.

    Specific elemental powers tags

    Guild Masters

These characters are leaders of Guilds.

    Gyaru

Gyaru (ギャル) is a subculture of women, also known as "Gyaru girls", who follow many types of Japanese street fashion. Gyaru girls are typically characterized by having heavily bleached or dyed hair, tanned skin, highly decorated nails, and dramatic makeup. There are many types of gyaru, such as Ganguro, Kogyaru, and Himegyaru.

This tag was previously called Ganguro. The definition has been updated to include other types of Gyaru girls.

    Centaurs

These characters are centaurs: beings from Greek mythology with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a horse.

    Firefighters

These characters are firefighters: professionals employed to extinguish fires and rescue those whose lives are threatened by them.

    Goblins

These characters are goblins: creatures from European folklore and fantasy stories that are sometimes depicted as friendly, while other times as grotesque and malicious.

    Pokemon

These characters are Pokemon, also known as Pocket Monsters, due to the fact that their human trainers can store them in pocket-sized containers called pokeballs. Pokemon have unique skills and abilities based on their species, and over time some can evolve into more powerful forms.

    Skeletons

These characters have nothing more left to their physical bodies than their bones.

    Slimes

These characters are masses of gelatinous fluid that typically don't have a distinct shape.

    Succubus

A succubus is a demon in female form that uses sexual prowess to trap and seduce men to feed off them.

    Bindi

These characters have a bindi: a dot on the center their forehead used for religious or fashion reasons. Usually worn by those from India, bindis can be created with makeup or jewelry.

    Bowl Cut

These characters have a haircut that looks like an upside down bowl. The hair is cut with a straight fringe on the front, and the rest of the hair is the same length all the way around.

    Necromancers

These characters specialize in necromancy, a form of dark magic that involves controlling the dead. Necromancers may summon and control the souls of the dead, or reanimate fresh, rotting or skeletal corpses in order to make them do their bidding.

    Photographic Memory

Characters with a photographic memory have the natural ability to recall information in vivid detail and recite it back with perfect accuracy. This phenomenon is also known as having an eidetic memory. These characters have a photographic memory.

    Snipers

These characters are snipers: marksmen that shoot their targets from long distances, usually from a concealed position.

This one was championed by our moderator @Sheepmatty , who's been working hard to fill in all pokemon entries with voice actors. It's still a work in progress but quite a few are added at this point

I'm pretty sure Succubus's plural form should be Succubi, like all Latin nouns that end with -us (eg. Cacti, Fungi etc.)

No one searches for the plural term so for discoverability we chose to keep this one singular

I was curious about your signature. So I clicked on it and then saved the video for later. Matthew Mercer is one coincidence, but D&D is a whole other one, since I want to get in to it. This was really random lol. But could you explain what the heck it's about?!

Ah, I see you already tagged [Chaika] Chaika (Sniper), [Sky Girls] Aisha Krishnam (Bindi), [Vanadis] Valentina Glinka Estes (Elemental Powers, Darkness Powers), [Vanadis] Sofya Obertas (Elemental Powers, Light Powers), [Brynhildr] Ryouta Murakami (Photographic Memory).

Is there a tag for a character who learns stuff quickly by observation (but doesn't involve a photographic memory)? I'm thinking of Ikki Kurogane from Chivalry of a Failed Knight.

Not yet. That seems hard to summarize in a single tag, though. But might be a good custom list for now.
