Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora

Well that was a bit unnecessary...
The whole scene where MC slept with the nurse's friend came out of left field. What even was the purpose of that?
And I know Rika isn't the nicest person around, but considering that the romantic feelings between them are evident I don't feel it's right to lie to her. I am awere that it might worsen her condition, but it just doesn't feel like the correct course of action.

The End
Natsume suddenly became a good guy after being oh so evil.
The end was pretty much she will live, but not for very long. I think there was probably more to that nurse than we got told, but overwall this was meh.
It was extremely rushed and there wasn't any likable characters that made me really get invested.

For the (Group) Watch:

Episode 1:

A few minutes in and already that nurse Akiko rubs me the wrong way. So basically Yuichi makes a deal with Akiko to keep a fellow patient company in exchange for not getting beat up for sneaking out of the hospital. Rika reveals that she has a heart condition and doesn't have long to live, so after spending some time at Mt. Cannon together Yuichi collapses. It has some potential, but with only 6 episode and writing that already feels rushed I don't have high hopes for this series.

Also Zebra Mask for the win!

Episode 2:

Akiko and Zebra Mask were able to bring Yuichi back to the hospital in time, and Akiko warns Yuichi that the sneaking out stops now. He and Rika are starting to get along (even though Rika didn't approve of the stack of porn magazines Yuichi "inherited") and a budding romance might be in the works. Rika tells Yuichi that she will have the heart surgery despite the high risks. Still don't like the way Akiko treats Yuichi.

How does that nurse still have her job?
She hits one of her patients.
She tells another patient to die (Though I probably would have said something similar in that situation)
She gives away information about another patient, I'm pretty sure that's illegal.
She smokes next to an underage patient, offers him a cigarette, hurts him when he says yes.
She bribed a patient into doing something he didn't want to do.

Rika is kinda cute though, if you ignore the blackmailing thing.

Episode 3:

With some help from Tsubasa/Zebra Mask, Yuichi somehow managed to retrieve Rika's book after it fell over the roof at the end of Episode 2.

Yuichi takes an interest in Rika's book and starts to read it.

Rika and Yuichi get a little cozy on the rooftop and start to get a little closer.

Dr. Natsume tells Rika's mother some grave news.

Natsume vents his frustrations of Rika's terminal condition on Yuichi.

Yuichi finally comes to terms with Rika's condition.

Episode 4:

Natsume and Yuichi reconcile after their fight in Episode 3.

Akiko offers to "drive" Yuichi home while giving some backgroung on Natsume.

Yuichi retrieves his camera so he can take pictures of Rika on her request.

Rika wants to visit Yuichi's school, so Yuichi fulfills her wish.

The nurse continues to verbally abuse Yuuichi, + she kicks him.
The doctor is also an *sshole
I still think that nurse is the worst hospital staff I've ever seen, but the doctor gets a second place.

Burning the books was such a waste, he could've given them to someone else or he could've at least recycled them. This was a waste of paper.

It seems like Rika is gonna die, the operation seems to be very high risk.

I'm pretty sure drinking while at work is illegal.

The way Natsume talked about Rika made him sound like a pervert.

At this point I think Natsume takes the #1 spot for worst hospital staff.

This was one of the first short anime I watched, it was also one of the first Japanese titles I watched, It was years later when I saw the English title and didn’t even connect it to Hanbun. When I started it I knew I’d seen it before.

The opening song is also one I’m proud to say was added to my playlist not long after my first watch and has remained a fairly regular listen.

It’s special to me so when I saw it prompted for group watc I jumped straight into a rewatch binge.

Here’s the result:

Episode 1
Lies can be forgiven given the right circumstances, though like Yuuichi I wouldn’t be too fond about going out in the cold to be absolved.

Pals like Tsukasa aren’t easy to make.

Treasure him forever Yuuichi.

Rika, you must be eternally grateful.

Realizations of death can strike even when they are not sought.

Episode 2
And it shall be known as “lock out the perv” attack.

Yes the hospital does know how to work people that nurse is always around.

And the first fight hits the couple. Ah romance.

Episode 3
And the fight continues. So long Tada’s collection.

Always save the pudding.
R.I.P. the Miso.

And this is why doctors should be required to take psychological evaluations regularly.

Episode 4
I lack the Compete at Red-Light Drive and will forever eye roll those who get so serious about it.

“That’s not true…” “My voice is like this.”
And let the giggles flow.
It would be awesome to find an anime with a character who did sound like that.

I do not share Rika’s interest in school but I can understand wanting to do something you’ve been unable to do.

Episode 5
I would have kiboshed the doctor's backstory mainly because he ticks me off and also because I’d rather have more Rika and Yuuchi.

Yeah back when knowing how to treat film was important and a roll could be ruined by improper handling.

Safety charms can be anything. Good for you Rika.

Hope can be an empty excuse. The truth hurts.

Episode 6
There is no “maybe”. Rika will die. With Yuuichi she will die happily.

Side step with style ^^

OVERALL THOUGHTS
“I shake off the flow of time chasing after us.”

“I will keep your voice, which calls my name, in the bottom of my heart, on the other side of the door, that way it won’t overflow, that way it won’t overflow, it won't disappear."

BRIGHTEN THE WORLD WITH YOUR LIGHT.

seeing people react is actually funny, because I actually thought the nurse was the only bearable cast member in the show (I mean. is she unprofessional? yes, but i've yet to meet an anime doctor outside of Monster who had any level of professionalism) she has that, I'm Looking Out For You Kid schtick

i just find the two mcs such annoying cliche boring fuckers. to be fair, I hate this anime

the doctor is a DICKHEAD, one of the most hateable characters in anime by far bc he's a dick but it's all handwaved (and absolutely crosses the line twice by being an adult messing with teenagers + willing to beat up a sick teenager at his hospital)

and the other character commit the even worse crime of being boring cardboard cutouts

Episodes 5:

Natsume's backstory, Yuichi having an affair with Misako and getting chewed out by Akiko, and Yuichi still in a state of depression even during Rika's surgery. Overall a pretty bad, unfulfilling episode.

Episode 6:

Natsume continues to force Yuichi apart from Rika. Yuichi then overhears what the worse possible outcome was.

And it was academic that Rika was going to die. The surgery was just to prolong her life a little longer.

Still Yuichi found a way to see Rika one last time and devote to stay by her side for the short amount of time she has left.

Final thoughts:

This was a pretty bad series. It wasn't exceptionally terrible, but it wasn't that great either. Outside of the bad writing, the characters were just downright awful and hard to watch. I couldn't root for anyone, not even Rika. 1.5/5

After thinking about this garbage, I feel like lowering my score even further honestly lol
