Daily Anime Thoughts

DAT:

I've been diving more into the wonderful world of 60s anime:

This theme song is so fire and that laugh is just too amazing man. It's really cool to find out that Golden Bat was essentially considered the world's first superhero and actually predates Superman and Batman.
I personally prefer Shounen Bat myself.

The west really did just steal every idea from Japan after WW2, like Kimba the White Lion, but it's okay because they stole it first with the first mangas ever having extremely disney designs.

If you aren't watching Bisco yet, take a good long look inside your soul, and ask yourself why.

Halfway through RE Zero Season 2 Part 2 (thank god, that's a mouthful and a half).

Decided my next one will be Bodacious Space Pirates (Mouretsu Pirates). I don't like to stick consistently to one genre; more fun to jump around!

Sabikui Bisco is so unbelievable. There's a dangerous disease, but people are forced to risk exposure every day by going to work. Not only is there a dangerous disease but the media intentionally spreads falsehood and governments are untrustworthy. Totally unrealistic.

Massive respect to the guy throwing down a hippo like that, forget bears, being able to beat a hippo is even more badass. They kill quite a few people per year and they have no chill.

Ok I am adding Requiem of the rose king now despite having absolutely no idea what it is all about. I am so in love with Sayaka Ohara voice, one of the reasons I considered playing genshin because beato's and ange's VAs have a role there lul.

To add onto this, she really needs to play more cackling villains to me, and let out those delicious ham dump truck qualities more often. She's at her best, when she's at her most hammy over the top!

Hmmm......just thinking to myself, I'd really like to see more Osamu Tezuka modern reboots. The ones I've seen have been of very good quality, and I'd probably be the most interested in Princess Knight being updated considering it was a stepping stone basically for Rose of Versailles and a lot of other classic shoujo.

Assessing my Precumre journey thus far I have to say.

Fresh Precure>Splash Star>Futari Wa>Yes 5

I only genuinely enjoyed the first two the whole way through since FW and Yes 5 both had second seasons which made good points for why Precure series should not get second seasons. Fresh was probably the best written of them all so far even if it looks noticeably uglier a lot of the times. It actually has something resembling a proper romance arc that isn't either entirely one-sided or outright creepy so that's a big plus.

Since I'm going in broadcast order, this means I finally get to watch Heartcatch, which is supposed to be the Holy Grail of Precure, so let's see how that shakes out.

DAT: It's funny to think about how much less popular the Meiji era is as a setting in anime, at least when compared to the Sengoku and Edo period, because the unrest and change of those times makes for really great stories too. Also all the shows I can think of in regards to that are either Shinsengumi-centric or at least feature them like Golden Kamuy or Kenshin.

Lady Snowblood takes place in that period and it's one of my favourite jidaigeki movies so there's that at least. The Last Samurai is actually pretty good too even though it gets very carried away with romanticizing samurai and their bushido code.

my exact words when i was watching the original Macross a month ago

Hopefully you watched Do You Remember Love. The animation for the movie was beautiful. Especially in contrast with the series where the shoe strong budget often had the characters looking super jank and off model.

Speaking of hand drawn animation and movies I am now remembering the group watch we had for The Queen Millenia Movie. That one was straight up animation porn. The first five minutes were some fantastic looking had drawn explosions. Destruction has rarely been this porn-y.
