Coming soon: export functionality, public API

Export list functionality and public API functionality (to enable support with apps like Taiga) have been requested for a long time now. Anime-Planet is run by a small team of volunteer developers, so these features have been back burnered in lieu of things like the challenges feature, infrastructure upgrades to help A-P run more smoothly, and other features.

Given recent problems with another anime site, we're fast tracking both of these features. We've heard loud and clear that Taiga support, for example, is important to many when choosing an anime site. And export is really a must for peace of mind - we want you to be able to grab a backup in case something ever happens with A-P (though we'll be around for years to come, don't worry!)

Timing

Export: stretch goal: today. Otherwise: in the next few days. Likely the "re-import your AP list" won't be done in the very first iteration. Export will enable you to download an anime file and manga file for those two lists.

Public API : End of June goal (or sooner if we can swing it). For basic information. Scope: anime database basic info lookup (manga, other types either as a v2 or in the same release). User anime/manga list updating capabilities.

We're still working on the API - the OAuth implementation has taken much longer than anticipated (as well as having a very limited amount of available developers to help for the past few months)

 

The same comment from Aug 14th applies - the developer in charge of that section of the feature has been MIA for awhile now.
