Beck

Episode 7:
I'm pretty sure they came up with the lyrics for those songs by playing scattagories. It was a bunch of random words stuck together. I wasn't impressed with the music at all and the vocals were shitty. The whole thing with Ryuusuke having the wrong guitar was stupid, it was like the writers were out of ideas on how to get him to forgive Koyoki. It was completely moronic.

As for the rest of it Koyoki is a fucking moronic coward and I was wishing the guy would have just beat him to death with the guitar to put him out of his misery. And what the fuck is an umbrella monitor and who could possibly take such a job seriously? They inanimate objects what kind of trouble could they possibly get into? Wait what was I talking about? Oh yeah this show is fucking boring.

Also is Saito paying him to move boxes of porn back and forth? The thought of that is slightly amusing I guess.

"What are you came all suddenly mad about?" Yay a return of engrish, this show knows exactly what I don't want to see it's amazing.

Episode 7:

So when finally they get somewhat serious in showing music instead of some good ol' rock we get hip-hop and rap songs. Not that they didn't sound okay-ish, but I don't particularly fancy either style...

Anyways this was so stupid. Why would Ryusuke want to make up after such a long time just because the friggin' gitar wasn't the good one? What matters here is that he lent Koyuki something he valued immensely and Koyuki treated it like shit. I don't see the point in not being mad at him anymore. So ridiculous.

Then there's moar boring bullying. Just when it had been fixed Koyuki gets the gitar broken again thanks to his being a pussy. I felt a bit bad for the retarded old dude here. No one should spend any money on this guy, he's just hopeless.

Episode 8: More of the same boring dry bullshit.

And for the record it looks like I was right about the bully lying about who the guitar belonged to.

Wow this thread seems to have been one big episode by episode bashfest. But I actually liked the series a lot.

I have to admit the lyrics in all the songs (including the ones that you'll hear later in the series (if you make it that far)) aren't the greatest in the world, but the instrumentally they are great songs. Especially the bass lines.

Though the show is heavily focused on Rock n' Roll, the point of it was to explore different music styles. Chiba has a heavy influence in rap and hip hop cause his character is modeled after Rage Against the Machine frontman Zack De La Rocha. (who has the same criteria) They show more music styles that have an influential hand in what rock is today as the show progresses. Some styles may not be your cup of tea witch is fine everyone has their own tastes, but I find it kind of cool that they didn't just do one type of music the whole show.

It's not like Koyuki broke the guitar on purpose (although even as a kid I knew not to run with my guitar) And I can see were you think it's kinda weak that it turns out it was the wrong guitar all along. But I'd feel bad too if I angerly lashed out at someone for something and then latter find out that what they did wasn't as big as I thought it was.

Overall I thought it was a very good show. It is very slow paced on almost all aspects, but I liked it. I took it's music seriously and unlike a more recent anime about being in rock band, they played alot more music and ate and drank a lot less tea and cake.

Well here we go then.

Episode 1
I WAS MADE TO HIT IN AMERICA!!!!

Really enjoyed this first ep, the characters seem pretty cool, I'm looking to seeing the band come together, and is it me or does there already seem to be a love triangle in the making?

Also, Izumi's engrish

I'll probably do 2 episodes today because there's a possiblity I won't be able to watch anything tomorow.

Episode 1

First episode was nothing but amazing.
I was wathing a dubbed version for first 3 mins, but it sounds awfull as hell... jap + engrish = comedy gold.
Charachters are interesting, and yeah, very strong love triangle vibe there....

FFFFFFFFFFFF- I love bad dubs, now I'm torn between engrish and bad English.

First I thought it was about Beck, but then I thought that was stupid. It wouldn't be that awesome. Then I thought some more:

What I know before watching this is that it's about a band, the Mongolian Chop Squad, which means they play some balls out hard rock that makes woman throw their panties at them. I mean, Mongolian Chop Squad, that's fucking badass. And that's all I need.

But... that's it actually.

Except it looks like that it might be a band of high schoolers looking to get into the big leagues with their badass band name, Mongolian Chop Squad. And uh... some new guy joins up and they rock out loud, learning lessons and shit along the way.

Mongolian Chop Squad. I would buy an album for that name.

Episode 1

BEAT CRUSADERS THIS OP KICKS ASS

Is that Kaoru as Main Guy?
That arcade was groovy.

"Whassup?! Awwww yeah!" Flip some gang signs and shit, what, what? Finish it with some hardcore simplified Pacman on an 80s junkheap and a slap to the face with a butt and it's all good.

His house is so badass, you hear a wicked guitar rift once you see it.

Think I might switch to the sub, the bit I saw near the end in Engrish was so bad that it convinced me. It was pretty good, really enjoying the music and can't wait to see the band get together and play some songs.

Ep 2

Really enjoyed this ep as well actually, got to see Ryosuke's band perform, and then bitch at each other. Then we see his little sister, who does not look 14 years old by any stretch of the imagination, and some more engrish

Seriously though, looking forward to seeing this series pan out.

Episode 1

This is great so far! That opening is so catchy, I can't get it out of my head.
I'm really liking the style of the series so far

Good to see people are enjoying it so far.

I like the style too, it kind of reminds me of FLCL, but a lot more restrained. The characters move in the same way and have a similar kind of overall design.

Ok, I completely forgot to post my thoughts about episode 2... ah, I was just thinking about watching ep 3.... anyway

Episode 2

Engrish is as magnificent as ever :megusta:

Animations are solid, but sometimes there's barely any motion... they're probably saving it up for some better scenes or something, but I'm digging the design... and I really appreciate the change of clothes in almost every scene... it's really cool to see a reference or two about legendary old bands.

This episode was quite nice. At first, we got to some minor development in their relationship, which is moving in interesing drection. This shit about love triangles could escalate in some solid drama... and yeah, long-hair-dude's sister... there might be a lot more to this than we expected. This episode more or less focused on MC's jelousy... and yeah, jelaousy is a bitch... we all probably lived through that shit so bad luck for our MC... I just hope they won't drag that for too long because I'm here for the music as well...

but yeah, there was a lot of music and I'm loving it.

edit: before I forget, that "why don't you date long-hair-dude" scene got me wondering... and i just loled at the way she dodged the bullet. shall see....

Episode 3

Some really interesting things happen... MC (I will remember his name eventually) and ... girl-sister (hers as well) take some time to hang out... I'm totally shipping those two :megusta:

Whole new scale of delicious engrish :megusta:

Music is still awesome... but damn, that english singing sounded medicore at best... but still, I didn't really expect them to have some voice actors/singers who have perfect tone in english... like Monoral ... but that comparison is just pointless.

Anyway, it's pretty obvious so far that main girl (I know...) is not that interested in Ryousuke ( nailed it). I mean, to invite a guy to practice swimming with you... be more direct will ya? I smell indecisivness in our MC... that could turn out lame... as every indecisive lead usualy does...
We meet the guy called Chiba (it's a name for marijuana... I can't manage not to remember it) and the bassist who are totally going to join the band because op spoiled it... all suspense that might have been here is gone... sigh.

I'll probably do 1 or 2 episodes more because I don't know if I'll be able to tomorow... something I'm expecting may occur any day now...

^ It's annoying as hell when the OPs spoil parts of the show, unfortunately it happens all too often.

Ep 3

Again, an enjoyable ep. They do seem to have put some effort in with the music being played throughout the show which is good, and I agree with Naga that...
The english singing is only mediocre, but again, I don't expect every japanese VA to have a perfect singing voice in a completely foreign language
At the end of ep 2 I thought there would be a love square between Koyuki > Izumi > Ryousuke > Maho, but now...
It looks like he'll have to make a choice. God I hope they do this well.

Also, dat Bass  Ernie Ball MusicMan, I'm sure HasseRovdjur would approve.

Episode 1 (watched it in both dub and sub form, not sure which I'm going to stick with for the rest of the series...)

Impressions: Animation style is unusual. Opening animiation is in Vegas??!!! Didn't like character design, but it is growing on me. Character setup now. What is up with his school friend looking like an old man??? Not really any surprises here. Wait, Beck is a Frankenstein dog... Can't wait to see Ryuusuke's band.
