Setting time relationships could get messy. Much messier then simply the same 'world'. I do agree that Universe is quite ambigous, but World is less so. Its enough to explain that, yes, these series do have some thing at all to do with each other. Time seems like it should come after that...

I was going to suggest this. World is much clearer then Universe. Not that universe isn't fitting, but (as was mentioned), most people think of Universe and Franchise almost interchangeably. If I saw world, I would think "ok, its got to do with the same story, not just similar 'series'"...
