So excited!!
A lot of phone apps have become extreme cash grabs (for gaming too ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ -- not a free player here) and the "free" ones now release spin offs of titles I'd like to read... missing the days where you had friends where everyone bought series and exchanged... solo is too expensive o(╥﹏╥)o
But,
Thank you everyone for this!

This sounds seriously neat! I don't read a whole lot of manga or light novels but I may have to check this out myself at some point!

One question though, are these limited to only previews or will there be full series available in the future?

Asking the real questions :)

Not that I have an issue buying LNs and manga - but there's more out there to read than I can possibly ever afford to buy - would be nice if they made some series completely available - even if it's only for a limited span of time.

[Disclaimer: I am not directly involved in any of the partnership process]

Unfortunately that's extremely difficult to pull off (especially for us). If we were owned by an official publisher (like a certain competitor is), we would have less barriers in the way to possibly allow us to be able to do that and more. However we don't have that form of connection with anyone, so we have an uphill battle to convince both the official publisher and the rights holders into doing this with us.

So far its going extremely well even if it looks like its just the first chapter of some manga series and the first quarter/third of some light novels at the moment, that's big progress, it's a starting point. If it does well for J-Novel Club and our next upcoming launch partner, it give us a stronger front to approach more publishers with and hopefully get more content available.

If people want to see more of this free content with more publishers and rights holders, we need people to show it by reading the free content and going though our partner links buying what they like.

This is an interesting new addition. Hmmmm.... I might check this out. The problem is that we are limited to a preview instead being able to read the whole thing and are forced to buy the rest if we want to finish it. Now, I understand why they do this, but for someone like me (who hates digital downloads and refuses to buy stuff with internet transactions) this is frustrating. If I wanted to buy a manga I would go to a physical bookstore and buy a physical manga using physical money (well, obviously I can't do this now with the whole pandemic thing but you get the idea). So, I don't know if I'll use this manga thing since as a completionist I will want to read the whole thing but due to my distrust of internet transactions I can not buy the rest, so I shouldn't start reading in the first place.

Six years ago we launched a groundbreaking way to watch anime online on Anime-Planet, featuring aggregated, legal streaming episodes through partnerships with the anime industry.

Today, we've launched a brand new portal for reading manga and light novels on Anime-Planet. Introducing a way to read manga online on Anime-Planet:

Like the "watch online" portal, our manga portal features free, legal chapters from industry partners. Our first launch partner is J-Novel Club, a leading publisher in the industry for a wide range of genres from isekai to shoujo and more. You can now read 100+ manga and light novel previews from J-Novel Club in the portal, worldwide.

The reader has several settings for "direction", fit (to height, or width, depending on the manga type), and single-page versus paginated.

Coming soon, more exciting partner announcements for the portal!

Q & A

How many chapters can I read for each manga?

Availability depends on the partner and the type. Currently, the community can read one preview (part of the first volume of the manga or light novel) on Anime-Planet, which maps to 1 or more chapters. If you like the series, you can purchase the volume through the Amazon button at the bottom of the chapter.

Can we have [this feature] for the reader?

The current manga reader is simplistic, but we aim to add a more slick UI and feature-set as we add more partners.

Thanks, as always, for your support of Anime-Planet.

HECK YES!

If it helps, J-Novel Club also prints its books physically, so you can go buy them at your local comic/manga/book store(s). I've bought some very recently at my local geek shop (they offer curbside pickup and delivery, bonus points for being about to support a small local business!). Previews can help you pick out which series you'd like to spend your money on, so you don't waste money on a series you end up hating right away.
