I know this will be a shocking revelation for most of you, but I like horror movies. With Halloween season coming up it's a good time for me to start thinking about what I want to watch for the month and that's where you guys come in. I thought I'd try something a bit different and let you guys make the playlist of movies I watch this year. The plan is I will watch one horror film each day and then post my reactions in this thread. Other people are of course welcome to watch along with me so we can discuss the movies. The more the merrier when it comes to discussion.

It might seem a bit early to start this thread, but I might need some time to track down all the movies so this way I'll have everything ready to go on October the 1st.

We can start with each person getting to recommend two films. Depending on how many recommendations we get I will open it up to more, but for now everyone gets to recommend two.

The only rules are:

1, It must be a horror film.
2. No porn.
3. Don't recommend A Serbian Film. I'd rather eat a horse's ass than ever watch that movie again.

So the ball is in your court guys. Do your worst!

There's a European vampire film I've been meaning to watch for a while, it has a long name, I'll recommend that when I'm on my pc later.

Also reccing a film I'm sure you've seen, Let The Right One In, the Swedish original.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil for my first choice.

Buuuuut wait, we gotta add some suck in here too, too much good: Troll 2.

Solid picks so far. If it keeps going like this then this should be pretty fun.

Oh good, after the first five recommendations all being for good films I was starting to get worried no one would recommend any complete crap.

I just hope I can follow the complex plot of Troll 2 without rewatching the first one as a refresher.

I might join in for a watch of Tucker and Dale vs Evil, seeing that I have watched it already.

Generally though, I don't watch the horror films!

Well, I might be able to think of something here. I might not watch them myself but my whole family love the things. I might as well ask them and see what they say.

Also, can I just take this opportunity to say how much better Brian Cox is as Hannibal Lector in Manhunter than Anthony Hopkins in the other films.

I actually agree with this, but I think the best portrayal of Hannibal Lector to me is always going to be Mad Mikkelsen's in the TV series, which you should seriously consider watching sometime.

Yeah, Mads is definitely my Hannibal. I think he captured all the facets of the character better than anyone else. His role in the series is much meatier than in any of the movies and I think Mads' performance even manages to evoke a bit of sympathy for Lecter because he plays Hannibal as such a lonely character. Hannibal is an unrepentant psychopath and it's made clear he's a monster from the start, but you can identify with him a bit more because all humans have the need for someone that understands them and companionship.

As for Hopkins vs Cox. I think they're neck and neck if we just compare Silence of the Lambs to Manhunter. Hopkin's performance in Silence of the Lambs was much more subdued and creepy than the other times he plays Hannibal. It's not until Red Dragon and Hannibal that he becomes a complete ham in the role. He's still entertaining in those films, but he's no longer even remotely creepy.

Cox's performance is good exactly because he doesn't overplay the role and considering his minimal screen time he does leave one hell of an impact. It's a minimalist performance that let's the actor's charisma and the material speak for itself. I really like the Manhunter film in general for it's minimalist style. It's a striking looking film with almost no spare fat. The visuals are great and it's dripping with 80s style. It's definitely better than Red Dragon despite Red Dragon being much closer to the book.

On topic, I think we should all watch Martyrs in a groupwatch

It's a great film with some heavy themes, but I'd definitely need the support of a group to watch it again. I felt pretty devastated after watching it.

As for recommendations there will probably be plenty of room for people to make more than two picks, but I just started with that to give more people a chance if they wanted to recommend something.

"It tells the story of a financially struggling porn star who agrees to participate in an "art film", only to discover that he has been drafted into a snuff film with child rape and necrophiliac themes."

And yet this doesn't really cover how depraved the movie gets. I can't believe I'm typing these words, but this is a movie that includes newborn porn. It's probably the most hateful, mean spirited and nihilistic movies I've ever seen. There's not much that I'd say really triggers me, but just thinking about this film makes me feel upset.
