Character Tag Guidelines

I don't know if this is the right place, but shouldn't there be an 'intelligent' tag or something...?

We do have Analytical and Child Prodigy. They work out because they're pretty specific and are easy to define. "Intelligent" by itself would be far too subjective.

Need help with the ecchi tag:

For example, Bakemonogatari has that tag. If I remember correctly, it has like 2 or 3 scenes that can be considered ecchi (I may be wrong, so clarify me if I'm mistaken).

So, if I'm correct, does that mean that all series that have the ecchi tag, have between 1 or 2 scenes, to almost permanent ecchi? (Without necessarily having the explicit sex tag)

I hope you can clarify me this :) ty

Hi there Linkhimura,

This is actually the character tags section of the forum, if you have questions about how anime are tagged then you'll want to direct future questions to this sub-forum: https://www.anime-planet.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=145. If you have questions about why something has certain tags then you can drop your question in there and one of the mods will do their best to answer your question.

As for your question: the anime tagging effort is still new and we're working the kinks out as fast as we can. At some point we plan to create a fanservice tag for titles that only have a handful of these ecchi type of moments, but for now such plans are still under discussion.

When it comes to Bakemonogatari specifically though the anime is very highly sexualized even if it is not your typical ecchi. The anime has more than just a few scenes where characters are put into compromising positions and typical fanservice/ecchi poses throughout the anime. Much of the anime is concerned with the main character's fantasies as he has them about the various girls that he encounters.

I'd agree that Bakemono's case might be a candidate for a lighter service tag depending on the parameters we come up with, but for the moment the ecchi tag does fit the anime and it certainly fits with all the Monogatari sequels as well.

I noticed that Finnian from Kuroshitsuji has the "Gardener" tag, but it's not listed here.
Ah, I noticed that the tag "cane" isn't listed here.

Yes, there are a number of new character tags that have been added recently. Can one (or more) of the character mods update this topic with the guidelines for the added/new tags so A-P members can use them correctly and also help mods with verifications in borderline/questionable cases?

just as a heads up this is currently being discussed in the moderator section, we'll have a plan to announce sometime soon

Hi all,

As a team we've decided to deprecate these guidelines, because of the tooltips available on the site now. We're working on doing the following:

1. Writing much shorter descriptions for every character tag (similar to the anime/manga descriptions, seen here)

2. Adding those descriptions to the character tags (NOTE: there's a bug on characters/tags and currently the anime/manga ones are outputting. this will be fixed asap)

3. As we add each description to the character tag page, the guideline as written here will be deleted

Moving forward, if anyone has questions on what a tag means, they can hover on the tag in the character entry, or on characters/tags, to read the public description. Mods will maintain a small doc of really edge case gotchas as well for things that users probably won't submit for, but that we need to keep in mind.

I've browsed the tag list through a couple of times, but didn't read all the posts in this thread, so...

Can we get (or is there already) a tag for people, who are adoptive parents? Legally or just "found this brat, took it in and raised it" types. I can come up with two such characters from my fandoms and I'm sure there's a lot more of them.

Hmm, some seem to have the tag "single parent", but the kids aren't their biological kids. And what if there's a couple or gang/team/pack who adopts kid(s)?

And how about tag "divorced"?
