Literally Chichi 2.0. but without the Chichi bullshit.
This character was Akira's answer to all the people who can't stand Chichi.
Videl started out a hardass, like Chichi, even Gohan pointed out how she reminds him of his mom.
She fought crime, everyone in the city love her, she had a rep as a badass, even the police acknowledged her strength and accepted her help as a hero.
And while she gave Gohan & Great Saiyaman a hard time, she respects him, even when they were in school she defended him when "Sharpener" was talking shit about him.
And after Gohan trained her, and she cut her hair, i noticed her attitude, while still tough, was starting to mature, she wasn't so pissed all the damn time. She was growing up as she got closer to Gohan & Goten.
All the things Chichi was missing. Development. I don't see why Toriyama & co. didn't just revise Chichi's characterization in Super, instead of making Videl leave Chichi behind as a character completely but that's exactly what Videl did.
Why? Because unlike Chichi, and i repeat: Videl developed, matured, and grew the hell up like a real woman. Like a real person, and not some insufferable caricature.
Some people don't like that she's a housewife now, tbh? That's not a reason not to like her character anymore, but I can see why some ppl don't rock with that.
Being a mother and wife shouldn't be the nail in the coffin of a woman character having a life outside of her family. I 100% get it. One of those shonenisms that needs to evolve.
But again, that's not a reason to dislike her character now.
More importantly, unlike Chichi, she treats Gohan with respect because she respects herself, as a wife should, that's all i care about.
Videl ain't perfect (she done some out of pocket shit here & there ngl), but she cool with me, she decent.
I wish they gave her more to do in Super. I know she is a mother now, but I loved how she was a fighter in Z. I would like to see more of that in the future?

One of the few tsundere's I can tolerate. She was gorgeous with those pigtails
She was really cool, but I hate that she gave up on her dreams to be a mom.
Incredible how dragon ball gave us cool chicks too, we have bulma, 18, that red ribbon army chick and videl. Awesome
