I felt kind of bad for this guy. I've never seen what happens in the game itself, but in the anime he seemed to genuinely like her and thought he was having a special moment with Kotonoha despite her distant state. When she tells him off the next day and he realizes what he actually did he seemed pretty shook up over his actions and the situation. He didn't strike me as a terrible person, just an idiot. Still better than Makoto in every conceivable way, now fuck THAT GUY.
