The anime version of Suzune may not resemble the LN version at all. However, I actually like the way the producers are interpreting her.
Into Season 3, we've seen signs of the "exo-Suzune" crumbling even faster. Suzune is still trying to guess how her brother would solve the problems she herself faces. In her mind, she has modeled her entire life after him. She believes he has a diamond-hard worldview. And she believes she does too.
However, Ayanakouji exposed a crack in her armor back in Season 2. During the practices for the Sports Festival he challenged her to practice a 3-legged race with him. He demonstrated to her that she sees others in the wrong way. They're not holding her back.
At the intermission on the day of the Sports Festival, he chastised her harshly, asking her "how long she intended to remain useless". That was another blow aimed at that crack in her armor. She then got a little honest with herself, that chasing after her brother had left her alone and useless.
Now, in Season 3, she's still wearing that same cracked armor, forcibly trying to see the world the way she thinks her brother sees it --- with a realistic, cold, disaffected view.
In the 3rd episode, she invites Ichinose to her room, along with Ayanakouji. She offers mutual support to Ichinose, but is stiffly rejected. After Ichinose dismisses herself Suzune starts talking about how she would like to see events turn out. Look back to just before the 14:00 minute mark and hit PLAY.
Ayanakouji fires another shot at the crack in her armor, and you see the shocked look on her face. He exposes to her that she doesn't really possess a cold, realistic, disaffected worldview. He's implying she never did. In other words, she's not being her true self. And she hasn't been all this time.
Suzune Horikita has growing pains ahead of her. And her armor needs to come off, because it doesn't fit anymore.

She is literally the only COTE character I actually liked. Super sad how she's literally the only one who gets character development.
