I could definitely relate to this character, and she deserved more screen time. Though I find myself more like Taiga, this chick is my spirit animal. We even look alike apart from the typical anime bizarre hair color and eyes. To be honest, I had originally disliked her and I'm sure I'm not the only one, but now she's easily my second favorite character; maybe even my first. Maybe. The point is, Sumire-san was fantastic and even though she had to leave, it was really just for Kitamura's character development.
In the moment she can seem like a very cold person. However you always see later that she had the best interest of those around her; even if it means denying herself something.
