After his decision on the grand magic games final day, yeah no he's not worth the character I really like. My problem with him surrendering is that it made no sense towards his objective in the battle. Keep in mind Minerva forced his hand to have him win the tournament so he can get lector back, which built him up because him fighting for his guild is something he wants, so it was a win win situation. The fact that it ended with him only to surrender made the battle so anticlimactic.
