He repeats himself constantly and cries too much. I understand that he suffers from depression, but the repetition for the anime's sake was a bit unnecessary. He's also too cowardly for my liking. Not that I wouldn't be afraid in his situation, but the way he acts about it is just irritating after a while. He's actually okay in the beginning of the series, but by the end, he's gotten on my nerves.
People don't see the grim epitath of Shinji, the director of evangelion went through a harsh time with his personal pice of mind :( I'm shure te people who disliked him are ones who watched Evangelion because it is popularand not taking it as an exmple of Anime and Philosophy.
Too depressing of a character for me, it really made the anime hard to enjoy. Not that the main char has to skip and hum and dance and be annoying, but still...
