I love this woman, because she's so much more than the anime portrays her to be. She's actually a very sad character and yes, she slaps her daughter every now and then, but it is not true that she sleeps with men when she leaves Maria at home. She's working hard in order to pay her debts, hoping that her husband will come back to her, so that Maria will have a father in her life. Rosa was the youngest in the family and never taken seriously, so she has always just tagged along. I love the depth her character has.
I hated this woman. She is a poor excuse for a mother. Her childhood was unfortunate, but it was completely inexcusable to abuse her daughter. I mean, I do believe in showing your child discipline, but she just takes it too far. She had alot of failed relationships and she blames Maria for it. There was a scene where she protected her from the goat servants, and was ultimately shocked when she saw her head as a dessert in that banquet arc. However, in another scene she tells Maria in her face that she never loved her, and that she wished she never been born. I don't know if it was either Bernkastel or Beatrice that pulled the strings to these events, but that ultimately lost my hope for Rosa being a good, providing mother. Glad Maria killed her.
I don't like her or Maria. Sure, Maria gets annoying enough that I would really WANT to hit her, but I never actually would, because it's just horrible and wrong.
