Spoilers - Didn't proofread - Sorry if it sounds as if I am attacking your opinion as I may phrase what I mean wrong and can be taken as offensive

everyone is entitled to their own opinion and here is mine: 

She is a great character.  It takes alot of courage (more than you may think) to stand up for someone when the entire class, including you "friends" ostrarise/bully them.  If you are to defend and help the victim then you will most likely make yourself a target.  She does help the MC by hanging out with her and taking the time to learn sign language, that is already amazing of her.  She is innocent and such a great person, just because she doesn't have the courage to stop the bullies doesn't make her a bad person or anything, or if you think it does then for a minute put yourself in her shoes.  Of course, in our minds we think that we will 100% defend our beloved MC but if we are actually there, actually living the life of one of the students, then you cannot positively say that you will definately help her.  It is easy to say stuff like "what a coward" , "I wouldn't have done that" , "what are you doing? stupid" not just to this character but to all the characters who do seemingly ignorant things or are scared by what you may think are petty.  There is no guarentee you won't do the same so therefore anyone who critisises this character for the specific reason of not doing anything more to help the MC is a hypocrite UNLESS you know for a fact you won't do what she does.
