One of the issues I have with KNB is how a good portion of characters are so underused that the few moments the series remember them and tries to develop them don't work as much as they should because of how little memorable screentime they have, and Furihata is a good example of this. I liked how Furihata changed the atmosphere in Seirin vs Rakuzan but his character not being memorable outside of when the series needs a hypeman or a temporary plot device dragged down the impact of his attempt to go against Akashi.
In comparison, Haikyuu pulls a Furihata type character better with Yamaguchi because Yamaguchi gets more screen-time and therefore more development to make viewers care and see Yamaguchi's growth as a character.
