Although he is a kind and sweet boy, Ippo seems to struggle to make friends because of his dedication to the family business. Persued by the school bullies, he is not confident in his ability to stand up for himself. Despite this, Ippo is highly determined in whatever he sets his mind to, often surprising himself with the outstanding results. Easily embarassed, especially when with the rest of the guys, he becomes extremely self-conscious about his well endowed secret!

He's good as well as he's based on a real character (Mike Tyson) which is one of the best boxers in the world
Just one episode in and I am roooting for this guy to be the World Champion! So many Harem main characters are so pathetic compared to him. Go Ippo!!!
Based on the original season, Ippo isn't so bad as a newbie, but he just keeps being this awkwardly polite, self-conscious and high-strung boy scout throughout his career in the following seasons. He never develops his character or relationships, rather he gets more and more stagnant and stubbornly unchanging with the new seasons, almost like he's Mickey Mouse or something.
He's such a pathetic wimp, getting stronger and stronger and still being so scared and having zero confidence. I don't understand why the manga creator didn't develop his personality. A bummer imo because this anime is not so bad.
He si one of my motivation.
