The reason the fandom preaches about him so much is because he deserves it. The anime was garbage skipping so many character arcs, but the source material (the manga) is what brings out his character fully. I could write a whole essay talking about the various attributes and original characteristics of Guts that make him unique and his journey one of the most gruelling and tragic stories of our time. The author continuously breaking Guts in the worst ways imaginable and forcing Guts to continue onward regardless is what appeals to us readers and her sense of empathy. I've read so many tales or stories of tragic characters, but Guts is the first one to genuinely make me cry. Even the person he loves can't bear his existence anymore, even if she knows that the reason he became such a monster was for her sake. All we want is peace for Guts, but his tale just continues to get more heartbreaking and our emotional attachment to him just becomes stronger.
