Hate to break it to ya, but she's more willing to help fellow witches than the muggles as evident by episode 4 so you might want to keep yourself in check.
@James That's the thing: she is made to be the lens of the camera. We're not watching Elaina herself. We're reading the diary/log book she is writing. We aren't supposed to focus on Elaina. If the writer takes her out of the series, we'll have a dull episodic stories that wouldn't make sense because of how disconnected it would be. If you make Elaina the star of the show, you might end up with a generic "hero save the day" show.
Ep. 4 was much better than ep. 3. Elaina doesn't act like a c*** to people unnecessarily, and she still offers to help without acting like a hero like some people expect. This is way better than her blatant apathy in ep. 3. I may learn to like her character if the writers don't make her a camera-insert devoid of emotion. If the audience wanted that, Elaina wouldn't even be in the story.
@Mio Not every character has to be some hero of justice who saves the day. There's plenty of anime you can watch if you want to see that instead. the episodes even says "The things we think we do for the sake of others aren't always best for them". And the fact that you bring real life issues into this is pretty asisine since this is an anime we're talking about, not the real world. There's a possibility the situation could've become worse if she intervened.
Some people seems to not realize that she is not a hero to save everyone's day. She only acts as a camera and a camera is not capable of saving a damsel in distress.
