I want to make it clear that while his actions, on multiple  occasions were undeniably flawed but this does not inherently make him a bad person, he didn't personally do anything terrible to neviah he was just unaware of the mistreatment and abuse that she was receiving. He is definitely not without fault though, he treated her with  apathy, which is arguably more painful than being hated - hatred is a form of caring because it takes energy and thought to despise. But he really didn't know about what she was going through, it appears that he was away a lot and simply found her affections to be more than he was willing to deal with, which is honestly okay. It's okay to reject someone, that's really your choice and it's better to make your lack of feelings clear than to lead on the other party dispite not loving them. When he did learn of out she was treated, the depth of her feelings, and just how much he had hurt her, he felt terrible about it; he realized his mistakes and was riddled with guilt. Some people say that he's a hypocrite but I disagree, now he just wants her to be happy and acknowledges that his mixed love-remorse-guilt is selfish and she deserves better, he is in his own right, atoning for his actions. He doesn't necessarily thirst for neviah's affections either he just feels like an @$$ and wants her to have it better than she had before, though I do think he wishes that he could go back and fix the relationship that he accidentally broke apart, like a careless child left alone with an antique vase. He doesn't want to "TaKe hEr ¡BaCk!" nor does he hate her, or joachim XII for that matter, he is upset with himself for what he did and had let happen, and to the topic of " taking her back" he did say that she would come back as he read her unsent letters for him but he said it with hesitation showing that he didn't really believe it he was also crying, showing remorse and how he was angry with himself. Similarly to  how it's really okay to reject somebody it's also okay to realize your feelings after rejecting someone, what isn't find is to expect the rejected party to accept your feelings afterwards, which he doesn't do, but he still has the right to his feelings, as does any person. I also want to make it clear that I do Not ship valor and neviah, but I'm quite fond of valor as a character because he recognizes what he had done wrong correctly and understands that the best way to make up for it is to leave her alone, people are also raging about how he has yet to apologize to which I say, he has yet to apologize, I think that he probably will at some point but I honestly don't really care if he does or not, sorry has never fixed anything, more than half the time the person doesn't even mean it and it won't change anything anyway, my mother always says that sorry won't fix it or that sorry is meaningless so the phrase is irrelevant to me. I kind of hope he does apologize though since I think he needs the closure and neviah needs the understanding that he is sorry for what he had done and more importantly that he wants her to be happy. I hope wishtash can find someone else and treat them better. There are better characters to hate and while I do not think that he deserves to be forgiven I think they need to let bigones be bigones and move on because it'll only hurt neviah more to hold that in her heart forever and though I personally believe that wishtash will never forgive himself even if neviah does that it would help, the same goes for neviah.

This man has no shame. First, he ignores the FL for TEN years and when she's finally had enough of his bs and breaks off the engagement to be engaged to the ML, he accuses her of cheating on her and asks if she fell in love with the ML while they were still engaged. The FL finally reveals that it's because of him that she broke off the engagement becvause he was so cold to her and when she is finally getting her freedom, THat's when he decides he misses her and wants her back, like bro, have some shame.
