Balalaika is the Russian leader of Hotel Moscow, an organization that frequently assists and hires the Black Lagoon teams. Though she feigns kindness, she actually has an exceptionally short fuse and does not tolerate failure. Balalaika is an efficient, vindictive, and ruthless businesswoman, and values her organization’s interests above all.

"Vladimir Lenin"
Now I know they did NOT just name her after the communist dictator bro 😭, also Vladimir is a male name and so is the last name "Lenin," our surnames are gendered, the female version of the last name 'Lenin' is actually "Lenina."
as a Russian person it's hilarious to see how others portray us (blonde & blue eyed is the stereotype) when the majority of us have dark hair haha, and majority of Russian population has brown eyes too, in every single anime I've watched that has Russian characters, we're always blonde, it's all a lie (╥_╥)
I love Black Lagoon's brand of mercenary storytelling, but I'd kill to see a proper mafia tale staring Balalaika front and center. Black Lagoon is a crime show, sure, but... it'd be nice to see a show that really leaned into the actual criminal aspect of things, as well as the angle of running an organization from the shadows. I love that sort of secret society stuff and a lot of Black Lagoon's best moments for me was when it actually dedicated the time to exploring that side of its world proper.
Basically, what I'm saying is that Balalaika is one of the most beloved characters from the whole show and she's still underrated. We stan a Russian mafioso.
A powerful figure.
