Being well written and emotionally complex with traumatic past doesn't erase the fact that Asuka still has a shitty personality. She's not someone you'd feel comfortable being friends with if she were real. I don't understand people (especially those who declare her their waifu) use the depth of her character as a defense for her. Yes, everyone knows Evangelion is very well written overall (except the end), but please don't expect people to love a 14 year old selfish psychopath who doesn't give a f-ck about anyone around her's well being and actively acts in ways that would hurt them over utterly stupid reasons like jealousy.
I'm not saying that she has to be like some sort of adorable moeblob, it's just that her abrasive personality is more than I can tolerate.
@LorekeeperZinnia I can't speak for everyone else, but the reason I dislike Asuka is because of my own personal issues. While I can respect what Hideaki Aono was going for, I can't stomach this particular character type because of the people I've come across in real life, considering that I got out of an abusive relationship around the time I finished high school. And that's as far as I'll go,because I never want to relive those horrific memories again. As I said before, Asuka isn't as annoying as other Tsundere character (I still think Louise from Familiar of Zero is far worse) I just can't stand that particular archetype.
I hate Asuka, because she has high emotional complexity of complete levels, with complex attitudes and actions, with high sincerity(or Sincericide), antipathy of high levels, Tsundere, bullying and temperament of high levels, etc.
