MUUUUUCH better in the manga. In the manga he has a real personality. He's playful, humorous, hot-headed but eventually comes around, has trouble with emotions, likes to joke around. He has a realistic personality that's well-rounded and the anime got rid of that completely. Also a lot of scenes in the anime that are from the manga are supposed to have him acting really soft and affectionate or at least thinking affectionate soft things but that's not seen in the anime at all.
