From a plot standpoint I wouldn't say they're identical, but in terms of zombies, they are. I think each of them has its own fantastic story and character development, so if you're looking for another zombie anime, I really recommend this one.
Zombie Apocalypse is the common factor here. Although the stories are different but they both follow the general plot of fighting zombies and gathering survivors & companions.
There has never been a show that has made me want to rewatch 'Highschool Of The Dead' as bad as this one. More fun zombie stories such as this are a step in the right direction but it has been done better already. Still, fun show to watch with friends.

Now she's become Andy's unwilling test subject as he works to find a way to trigger a stroke of Unluck big enough to kill him for good. They are both crazy in a simialr way. And they both revolve around "undead" characters and have a lot of flashy action.
seeking some zombie fun then look no further than these two anime. both center around zombies and the crazy patterns that zombies engage. as a bonus check out the possibilities of how a zombie can die.
During the industrial revolution, mankind is threatened by the sudden emergence of undead monsters who can only be killed by piercing their heart through an iron plate. Those bitten become one of them. Called the “Kabane,” these monsters exploded in number. The Hinomoto people built fortress stations and barricaded themselves inside. Only steam locomotives, the Hayajiros, can travel between them.

The journey to 100 friends begins with a single conversation. Socially anxious high school student Shoko Komi’s greatest dream is to make some friends, but everyone at school mistakes her crippling social anxiety for cool reserve! With the whole student body keeping their distance and Komi unable to utter a single word, friendship might be forever beyond her reach. Timid Tadano is a total wallflower, and that’s just the way he likes it. He lives to blend in with the background. All that changes when he finds himself alone in a classroom on the first day of high school with the legendary Komi. He quickly realizes she isn’t aloof, she’s just super awkward. Now he’s made it his mission to help her on her quest to make 100 friends!

If you enjoy this director's work and want to see more of his work, I highly recommend this! It has similar animation too! But a completely different story.
Yuki Takeya loves her school. She loves it so much, in fact, that she actually lives there! She's part of the "School-Life Club", a group of four girls and their dog who camp out in the club room at night and grow their own food on the school roof. But why is Yuki the only one who still attends classes? And why doesn't anyone ever have the urge to go home?

if you're seeking anime centered around zombies, where the main characters are doing their very best to avoid and stay alive then look no further. as they are both from different countries and one is a Prequel to a movie (Seoul Station/Train to Busan) these two focus entirely on the scenario, where did the zombies come from and how do a I get away from them.
The country is being invaded by ferocious fish with sharp metal legs, hell-bent on death and destruction! Amidst the carnage, Kaori embarks on a desperate quest to find her missing boyfriend before he is lost to the mayhem that is sweeping the land. Facing four-legged killer sharks, machine driven squid and the myriad dangers of Tokyo, now an urban war zone, Kaori must find the truth behind these mechanical monsters and face an evil greater than she ever could have imagined.
When the group of survivors leaves mainland Japan for a secluded island, they are beyond relieved to be free of bloodthirsty zombies. They finally feel like things are getting back to normal as they dress in skimpy swimsuits and try to forget what they've seen. But new adventures await them, and life on the island comes with its own brand of danger in High School of the Dead: Drifters of the Dead!
