Both of these anime's are sports anime's with a strong shounen ai feel to them. There is tons of bromance and plenty of hot guys.

Both have similar likeable, socially awkward, glasses main character type who participates in a competition of sorts. Both focus heavily on drama. Both have an originally arogant side character they compete against who is humbled and grows a lot from encountering the main character.
While Yuri on Ice is generally more light and upbeat, Yuri and Kousei share similar personalities and so do Viktor and Kaori, and the interactions between the two pairs bear striking resemblances. If you're drawn to the relationship between Viktor and Yuri, try Your Lie in April.
It's because both main characters from both anime had their lives changed after meeting the other (in YOI, it's Victor, while in Shigatsu, it's Kaori). In Shigatsu, Kousei is not necessarily an underdog in his field but he tends to be dragged down by the trauma caused by his mother's death. On the other hand, Yuri is an underdog in his field and is about to retire from skating because of his age. The job that Victor and Kaori have in their own series is to serve as inspiration and romantic interest to the main character.
Shoyo Hinata isn't a large guy, but he's got huge ambitions. It is another popular sports anime that centers around a boy who kind of sucks at volleyball but he isn't that bad considering that he jumps hella high and he is super fast and quick. It's just an amazing anime with very lovable characters.
Both of these anime are about the underdog struggling to make it in the sport of his choice. The anime introduce a lot of strong male figures, both rivals and support for the main guy. Yuri is a little more blatant about the gay undertones, but Haikyuu has its moments. If you like one, check the other.
Both of these animes are about sports, and the angst and struggles of the characters in them to overcome their fears, as well as the competition of their sports.
