In both Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho, the hero started off somewhat unwillingly doing the job. Both have a strong relationship between the lead character and his link to the "other world". And both take their job VERY seriously.

Bleach by far is one off the best anime shows about spiritual powers, and it also throws in special abilities of weapons with spirit power. It bombards you with epic fights and battles between soul reapers. It's awesome and I must recommend it to all you Yu Yu Hakusho lovers. Watch Bleach and tell me you don't like it. It has one of the best storylines I've ever even read and has so much fighting in it that you won't want to stop watching this show after you see it. If you liked YYH for the battles and fighting, check out Bleach.

andyasian andyasian says...

Bleach centers around a kid who is negative towards others, but gradually gains friends he trusts and would glady give his life for. Yusuke is quite similar in that aspect. Also, they both gain some unworldly power and are able to become stronger at a rate that surpasses all others. They both fight for what they believe in and will never leave anyone behind.

The fighting is nearly the same except Bleach seems to have more thought out fighting. They both have a comedic side but get very serious during fights. They have similar plots as Yusuke begins fighting demons and Ichigo begins by fighting hollows. If you like Yu Yu Hakusho, I'm sure you would like Bleach.

Both of the main characters in Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho are teenage boys who find themselves thrown into the spirit world after committing selfless acts to save people around them. They also progress unusually fast when it comes to their skills and they become able to stand their ground against just about anyone. They story lines of both also progress fairly fast and immerse you in the story. Oh, and you can't forget the awesome action scenes in both that will hook you.

Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho both involve a young male teenage lead that is an outcast and not understood. These characters gain spiritual powers due to a strange event, and gain new friends who better understand them.

Not only are YYH and Bleach some of the most popular fighting anime that combine action, comedy and tads of romance to lighten up things, but the buildup of the characters and flow of the story are similar as well.

Soul Collectors! This phrase suits Bleach and YYH perfectly. The main character in each series works his way towards proving that there's more to him than meets the eye; he does this through intense training and hard work. With the help of his friends at his sides, each main character can overcome almost anything!

Both Series Deal With A tennager who Suddenly gains Other-worldy ablites and becoms an Agent for the After-world(Soul Society, Heaven, etc). And the other way around.

Hmm, what to say, Bleach is renewed YuYu, so there's many, many and even a bit more similarities in terms of plot. The main diffrence is it's age. You may say what you want but that still is around 10 years. If you enjoyed Bleach you may also like Yu Yu.

Gaidin Gaidin says...

Both series have a main character that loves to fight and strives to get better with each passing battle. They also fight a variety of opponents through out the series.

Jabau Jabau says...

Well why not recommend. Bleach does seem to borrow a bit from Yu Yu Hakusho, They're both alright comedy wise and both share some good similarities storywise. The main characters both seem to share some things in common too, might I add. If you're into either and find yourself bored one day, why not give the other a go?

Sorafiredemon Sorafiredemon says...

Because I like the show and they are sort of similar, in a way. They both have to do with spirits, the undead and such.

CrazyAce01 CrazyAce01 says...

Yu Yu Hakusho and Bleach are stunningly similar. Yu Yu Hakusho is the classic shonen, and Bleach is almost a modernized, high-adrenaline version of YYH.

Both male leads are bullheaded and more or less social outcasts, but end up being saddled with responsibilities they never wanted.  However, their determined additudes make them extremely good at what they do and they both end up taking their jobs very seriously.

As each series progresses, the character find the need to increase their strength to protect the people they care about and fight the forces of evil.  Using their iron wills, the continue to struggle forawrd no matter the seeminly impossible obstacles that await them. They both have to deal with the responsibility that comes from weilding strong powers once they do attain them.

A good supporting cast also surrounds each major character in both series, providing motivation, friendship, and a slew of interesting powers.  Both series also have highly detailed Heaven "organizations" that the main characters end up working for.

I'd go on, but there is little point.  YYH does show its age, but if you are a big fan of Bleach you should go and watch the old classic and learn your roots.  If you enjoyed YYH, then Bleach will blow you away.

Kiyohime Kiyohime says...

Both anime have a main male character who start off as a normal high school/junior high student when something happens to make them become more physically and "magically" inclined. They learn about powers they possess and are both forced to fight monsters. Plenty of action, plenty of comedy to lessen the seriousness, and plenty of paranormal characters are introduced to add to the anime and the awesome fighting scenes. Bleach is ALOT longer than Yu Yu Hakusho, and I would say better drawn, but are action packed comedies worth watching.

Bleach09 Bleach09 says...

in both animes the main characters learn of a whole different world separate but part of the world they are used to.  When they learn of these worlds they are pulled into the world of supernaturalism and are employed by the superiors of the worlds.  The characters are thus pulled into the disputes and fights of thee worlds all the while fighting for their lives because of the reputation they've achieved through their jobs.

TritonV8 TritonV8 says...

Both of these anime deal with teenagers who come into having "special powers" and decide to use them to protect those closest to him. Both have alot of fighting and "powering up" (getting stronger as the storyline progresses). Later on in both stories you find out hidden family secrets that also tie into the story.

Both Yu Yu Hakusho and Bleach share common traits both are Shounen and Action based animes, the two main characters Yusuke Urameshi and Ichigo Kurosaki are both considered to be delinquents but deep down they have a strong sense of justice. Both animes they save the world from the depths of the evil and corrupt, and are joined by great friends.

If you like the fighting style in Yu Yu Hakusho, you will also love Flame of Recca. You will see similarities between characters in these two series.

When a bunch of teens find out they have special powers they swear to protect the weak. To do so they enter into a tournament where all of their fighting skills are tested. If you liked FoR or YYH, check out the other.

shalist shalist says...

The first half of Yu Yu Hakusho is almost identical to the Flame of Recca series. Some teens suddenly find out they're pretty damn powerful, and after a few adventures, end up fighting in a grand tournement with tons of one on one fights. The fighting itself contains a lot of clever strategy and oddball tactics that also remind me of the fighting in Flame of Recca.

AyameNatsuki AyameNatsuki says...

Both Flame of Recca and Yu Yu Hakusho have very similar plot elements and themes. In both shows, there is a grand tournament with lots of fighting and relationships that build because of the fights.

bsmithleo bsmithleo says...

Flame of Recca is clearly a clone of Yu Yu Hakusho. So if you liked YYH, Flame of Recca is about the same. Both main characters are fighting to protect some girl, and bad guys see their power and want to fight them for their own gain. They have almost the same plot.

genux genux says...

YYH and FoR are almost clones of each other. Both are heavy in tournament-based martial arts fighting and special techniques; have main characters who must protect their significant others; have a cool but ruthless ally, a dependable but simple grunt, and a damsel in distress; and much more.

The only really difference seems to be the premise. Yu Yu Hakusho has a longer story, but at the core of it is martial arts fighting - almost identical to Flame of Recca. If you liked one, no doubt you'll like the other. Same substance, different packaging.

Juliandelphiki Juliandelphiki says...

Yu Yu Hakusho and Flame of Recca have outstanding character development and a sense of action-packed and magical justice.

jaysah925 jaysah925 says...

both animes are very similar in terms of characters and plots. both have what you could say a 'tournament saga' wherein the main character, coupled by his friends, join in a tournament in hopes of winning. although yu yu hakusho continued long after that, there were still many aspects of the show which is similar to flame of recca.

if you liked the action one of the shows portrayed, you'll definately like the other.

kooltilldend kooltilldend says...

Flame of Recca is clearly inspired by Yu Yu Hakusho as the characters are practically the same. Yu Yu is certainly the better of the animes however, Flame can be enjoyed just as much if you liked the other.

The stories are very similar, the romance aspects are practically the same, the characters have much in common, etc etc...its as straight-forward a recommendation as it gets really

starlightknight starlightknight says...

The entire anime of Flame of Recca pretty much directly parallels the first half of Yu Yu Hakusho.

In both series, the main characters start out as adversaries and later become teammates after their initial conflict. Both series then proceed to have an arc where the characters work together to fight a common enemy for the first time. Then, both series have a tournament arc immediately following where the characters are forced to fight as a team in an evil tournament against other teams of strong fighters

The two series are extremely similar; if you like one you are almost certain to like the other.

PrettyBoy PrettyBoy says...

yea these anime are exactly the same EXCEPT Yu Yu Hakusho is just a WAYYY BETTER version of Flame of Recca.  I mean its longer and it has more in depth with the characters and all the characters have way more moves.  Flame of Recca is pretty much a pre-school version of Yu Yu hakusho.  They are both worth watching tho.  If you enjoyed one you will enjoy the other.  Exact same plot though you will notice the similarities right from episode 1!

RainbowDeathSkittles RainbowDeathSkittles says...

Flame of Recca is basically a faster paced Yu Yu Hakusho which focuses even more on the tournament aspect.

These shows are basically the same for the first few arcs. The drawing, characters, plot and the way the episodes are layed out are almost identical. If you liked one you will probably like the other.

Both animes have a similar plot line of magical justice, fighting, humor, relationships and seriousness.

captanmurdoc captanmurdoc says...

Yu Yu Hakusho and Flame of Recca both have a very similar art style, pacing and general story line. At times they almost seem like the same story just with words like demon and ninja being interchangable. Both are solid shows and would highly reccomend either.

Reasons you might like Dragon Ball Z...

DSAP DSAP says...

DragonballZ has more of a focus on long epic battles than YYH but otherwise has a simmular mood

shalist shalist says...

If you liked the fighting in Hakusho, you'll likely appreciate the quality combat in DBZ. Though the fighting in Hakusho tends to be more 'down to earth,' depending more on characters thinking up (or lucking out with) clever and/or suicidal strategies to win their tougher fights, while DBZ's fighting places more of an emphasis on adrenline rushes and powering up.

freakzilla freakzilla says...

DBZ has less of a story than Yu Yu Hakusho, but the fights are somewhat the same. Since Yu Yu Hakusho is also based on DBZ the chances of someone liking both are extremely high.

motoman9213 motoman9213 says...

If you're looking for awesome action then DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho are for you. While DBZ in my opinion is lacking the more intense story line that draws you in that Yu Yu Hakusho has, it still has a decent story line that seems to constantly repeat itself: that, of course, would be saving the world from amazingly strong badasses. Overall they're both great shows that you'll definitely enjoy if you like action.

rossion rossion says...

dragon ball z and yu yu hakusho the hero has special powers dragon ball z has goku with his energy blasts and yu yu hakusho has yuskei with his spirit energy they both visit the afterlife as yuskei gains his powers from their and both visit king yenmas palace the only thing is as goku gains the ability to increase his power early from his Kaioken to his super saiyen 1, 2 and finaly super saiyen 3 while yuske has only near the end his demon form

apfmh apfmh says...

Yu Yu Hakusho and Dragon Ball Z, firstly, look similar in animation and have similar senses of humour! Yu Yu Hakusho has the advantage of being faster-paced than DBZ with less of the drawn out battles seen in DBZ. Yu Yu Hakusho also has less characters to keep track of, making the plot easier to follow. Dragon Ball Z has many, many characters and dark pasts to keep track of, sometimes making it difficult to follow and remember certain details! Both however, aree worth watching!

packman850 packman850 says...

Both feature similar fighting styles with similar story lines. I love both shows and what brought me too Yu Yu Hakusho was DBZ because of there similarites. It's a great show and both excel in different areas so there not completely similar. I find YuYu more funny while DBZ has better fighting scenes. Either way there both great shows.

Arikon Arikon says...

Both Yu Yu Hakusho and Dragon ball Z are great series and if you loved one of them you will more than likely love the other as well.  Yu Yu Hakusho has animation that is just as poor as DBZ, possibly a little better.  However, the story line in both of these animes has major similarities. Some examples are saving the world from destruction by continuously getting stronger, adding new moves after long training periods, colorful magic/energy attacks etc.  The battles happen much faster in Yu Yu than in DBZ without as much standing around but both have amazing battles.  The character development in both DBZ and Yu Yu has to be the best part of both of their series, enemies becoming friends and different people gaining different abilities and feelings makes both of these animes live infamously.

MCBigman MCBigman says...

As two of the, no....THE two greatest Shounen anime ever made, they practically go hand in hand. Not to mention YYH was the ONLY show to know DBZ of it's perch when they were airing in Japan. Both are worthy. Both are worth the time of day. Even if DBZ is CRAZY long.

Castochi Castochi says...

If you liked the superpowers theme on either series, you'd definiteley like the other. Also, the "tournament feel" is present in both series and makes up a very interesting way to experience them and feel like you are a part of the competition. Both are a must-see for any true action-junkie!

RunRynRynRun RunRynRynRun says...

YYH & DBZ action sequences are often very similar the only only difference is that in YYH the powers are a little more in check. The art style in both of the series and the characters are very similar in there mainly Goku & Yusuke & Hiei & Vegeta. They are both very good series:)

Slimjim Slimjim says...

Arguably the two best action shows in existence, at least in my opinion. Both have great character depth, plenty of laughs, and most importantly: both are chock full of awesome fights that will surely send shivers down your spine.

Watching the main characters in each show progress from a near-worthless weakling to the strongest and most powerful warrior in existence is a thrilling and spine-tingling experience. If you like one, I have no doubt that you will love the other.

Both have hero progression to getting stronger with some tournament style battles and saving the world elements.

miko miko says...

as yu yu hakusho was made as a replacement of dragon ball z, it's only a natural suggestion.  to be honest, the story line is very similar, a nobody becoming a somebody via becoming stronger when fighting and protecting the ones you love.

SuperSaiyanKHAN SuperSaiyanKHAN says...

these two anime both have a ton of fights + they're mostly unbpredicatble in terms o who will win in a duel

Kuichio Kuichio says...

To me, Dragon Ball Z expresses much of the fighting spirit shown by Yusuke, and Goku goes through much of the same situations as Yusuke, like training for tournaments and fighting for friends. DBZ is, however, much longer and gives a lot more time to enjoy the experience than Yu Yu Hakusho. It seems like the creator of DBZ was heavily inspired by Yu Yu Hakusho, but both experiences remain autonomous and give their own insight to the journey to power.

kumoyume kumoyume says...

if you're seeking anime where the main characters must fight to reach the top and must struggle to survive and evolve as they face their enemies then look no further than these two.  YYH focus is mostly on monsters/demons whereas DBZ is focused on alien, both are focused on a lot of fighting to become the best.

Yusuke Urameshi is a just your ordinary teenage delinquent (if there is such a thing) living a selfish lifestyle; because of this much of society treated him as an outcast throughout his life. A lot like Yusuke, Uzamaki Naruto was treated as an outcast by his village not only because he behaved selfishly, but because of a dormant monster sealed within him. Both protagonists are so much alike that it makes me laugh when I think about it. They each have serious ego problems and think that they're the best in everything; their style of fighting is always reckless (they aren't the stealthy types); and last but not least, neither of them are any good at creating strategies - they'd much rather use brute strength. So if you like action anime with a laugh every now and then both of these series are recommended.

Yu Yu Hakusho. Hunter x Hunter. Both these shows were made by the same creator, Yoshihiro Togashi. Both shows are also great action/adventure shows and both have qualities that make them unique. Both protagonist show strong love and conpassion for the people they care about most. Both series also have 4 male leads. While Yu Yu Hakusho is about being a Spirit Detective and Hunter x Hunter is about being a Hunter both series highly focus on tournament like events and both series have the same "feel" to them if you have seen both. Overall, these two shows are a perfect compliment to each other and Yoshihiro Togashi really outdid himself in both of these works.

They both have the same feel. A main character who's fun-loving and carefree, but not afraid to take things up a notch and take risks when it's required. The supporting cast isn't just there to provide bulk, and are likable characters that add color to the cast.

Both shows were created by the same mangaka and both surpass expectations, making them enjoyable watches. If you liked one, you're almost positive to like the other.

Although both anime use quite a diffrend style there is some similarities (besides setting). The major one would be that both anime main characters fight unarmed, does'n't use a literal sword when fighting and in place of a sword, uses hands and legs as weapons. That particular keeps me interested when watching good fights and there is plenty of that in both anime.

Both have a decent amount of episodes and are well structured into different but related seasons. They both center around a group of boys going on adventures and kicking the bad guys' butts. They contain comedy, but aren't centered around it and have some pretty intense fight scenes and challenges that sometimes last a while.

The only thing is that Yu Yu Hakusho is a bit more on the mature side as it has a lot more blood, gore, and death while just about no one dies in Hunter x Hunter.

All of the MC are really similar , Gon and Yusuke have similar hairstyle and love to fight. Even their parents are same. Kurapika > Kurama , Hiei > Killua and Kuwabara > Leorio. But what would you expect when both titles are from same creator?

Lots of action , Tactics and both have tournament arcs.

Yu Yu Hakusho may have romance but Hunter x Hunter (2011) doesn't have any. Also both are heavely focused on friendship. HxH (2011) have less comedy than YYH.

Both series were done by the same mangaka and even though the plots don't have much in common they do share some important features. The most prominent similiarity is the strong character development, including supporting charaters. Each character has a well developed and interesting background that is explained in an interesting and meaningful way. In addition, the fighting scenes are similiar because the special powers can vary so much that nobody fights quite like another person. You get to see some incredible fights that utilize interesting techniques.

Although Hunter X Hunter is a much simpler story, both of these shows have a good plot, interesting characters, and a nice mix of action, humor, and character development.

Rickoon Rickoon says...

Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter go well together; though the former concentrates more on tournaments than the latter. Both contain variety in the small main cast while boasting many strong supporting characters to help move the plot. The stories are varied enough so each doesn't feel recylcled from the other: it's an easy choice to consider these two series together.

Justaway Justaway says...

Both animes were created by the same author and therefore holds a lot of similarities, like some of the characters are very alike.

While HxH has a better plot, they both contain great fights, loveable characters and a lot of comedy.

If you liked one, you'll like the other!

They are both made by the same mangaka, and chances are that you'll find yourself loving the same things you liked about one series in the other. One of these things are the moments of psychological suspense you won't find in your typical shounens.

Both of these series are fairly high level fighting series, however Hakusho is more intense and the character design and fights are way more ingenious and thought-out. Dragonball however is a long epic storyline.

baley7 baley7 says...

Both YYH and Dragonball have some similarities like many fighting scenes that increase in intensity as the series go on, and a good dose of comedy. If you liked Yu Yu (especially the first half) then you most likely will also enjoy Dragonball; and the same is true in reverse.

Foop Foop says...

Dragon Ball and Yu Yu Hakusho have very similar moods and intense fight scenes. If you are a fan of that, you should watch them both.

ADHDguitar ADHDguitar says...

Dragon Ball and Yu Yu Hakusho are both very similar.  Fight, fight, fight, huge tournament, fight fight and repeat.

Both are very good action/martial arts animes.

Tanginello Tanginello says...

Both series have a similar storytelling style and pacing, with a minimal amount of filler. Story arcs go by quickly enough not to drag and enough humor to keep things ultimately light-hearted (and to make those few serious moments that much more poignant).

Yu Yu Hakusho does have a little more "spirit fighting" than Dragon Ball, but there are still plenty of physical punches being landed for all you martial arts fans.

ScottAF ScottAF says...

Both shows are similar in structure as far as martial arts tournaments and young protagonists that get stronger as they battle. There are several points where I can identify aspects of Yu Yu Hakusho that remind me of Dragon Ball. Most noticeably in the Red Ribbon Army Arc of Dragon Ball and the Beasts of Maze Castle in Yu Yu Hakusho. Any fan of Dragon Ball should consider Yu Yu Hakusho as a must see and vice versa.

Yu Yu hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin main characters fight and protect the weak and their beloved ones. Both the main characters have a past they don't want to face or don't know about. Even through both anime is really different Yu Yu Hakusho and Ruroni Kenshin are both action pack animes with a little bit of romance between the main characters.

The art is similar, the both stories are amazing. Despite of the difference in time, it's really cool how the stories get better and better!

ManuSan95 ManuSan95 says...

Both are near on the time (same generation), they are shonens and there are guys with swords in both of them. Maybe you like BLEACH too.

miko miko says...

I can't argue with these two suggestions, as they both involve a strong male lead character who tries his best to protect the one he loves at all costs.  even though one uses "magic" and the other "sword" both intertwine with both of these throughout the anime.

Both YYH and Inuyasha deal with high school students and center around a strange demonic aura. There's mysticism involved, and each group fights the demons and tries to protect their homeland. Both of the main characters are males with very surly personalities that match their fighting skills. They each meet a group of friends along the way that strive to help them fight the demons and protect the ones that they love.

starlightknight starlightknight says...

Both Inuyasha and Yu Yu Hakusho focus on demons. In both series, the main characters spend the majority of their time fighting demons to help maintain peace in the world. In both series, the main character's strength grows exponentially throughout the story as they rise to the challenge to defeat new demons.

Both series also have many comedic elements that provide a nice mix of action and comedy.

If you like one of these series, you should try giving the other a shot.

PrettyBoy PrettyBoy says...

BOTH animes have a good mixture of action and romance. Inuyasha has a little bit more romance but they both have fantasy.  So if you like powers and beams and all that crazy stuff that we cant do in real life you will like yu yu hakusho and inuyasha.  These are MY top 2 animes of all time at the moment. HIGHLY recommend both !!!

They also have to deal with demons throughout the show, whether they want to or not. Plus, they both have similiar humor added into the mix.

Both anime involve a young boy who is getting dragged in the crazyness of the demon world while having to deal with the whims of a baby who is in both cases, the son of the demon lord. (Beelzebub is more oriented toward comedy while Yu Yu Hakusho is more dramatic and involves a lot of epic fights.)

Both deal with high school delinquents who are the toughest in their class in regards to fighting. Both deal with the demon world and human world. They have a lot in common, but are both unique.
