Kousei ARIMA = Arata WATAYA
Tsubaki SAWABE = Taichi MASHIMA
Kaori MIYAZONO = Chihayafuru AYASE
more or less
The characters of these two anime are really similar. From their looks to personalities, the main characters of these anime could be twins. Add a nice helping of love triangle and a dash of determination doing what you love and you get both of these anime and a solid recommendation. Your Lie in April is sadder and more dramatic than Chihayafuru, but, with similar characters, themes, and atmosphere, you could very well like one if you liked the other.
One day, while testing out his new video camera on a bridge in town, Kaito Kirishima sees a bright blue light in the sky and is inexplicably knocked over the side, awakening the next morning in bed with no memory of the event. But upon heading to school, the boy notices a new face that’s familiar to him somehow - her name is Ichika Takatsuki, and she’s new in town. Kaito’s friends, noticing his interest in the girl, all resolve to make a movie this summer and cast her as the lead, to which she immediately approves. Now, the group embarks on what will be a truly memorable summer that no one will forget, as Kaito and Ichika slowly, and clumsily, begin to fall in love.

Ano Natsu de Matteru is a better version of YLIA.The characters are more interesting. The story can keep viewers interested, unlike YLIA.Watch Ano Natsu de Mattera ^-^
The friendship layout is strikingly similar: boy in glasses falls for a pretty girl he just met and his best friend for several years secretly likes him. They actually have a lot of differences (Shigatsu deals with music while AnoNatsu deals with film making), but you get to see the concept of being "friendzoned" several times in both series. The female romantic interest (Kaori in Shigatsu and Ichika in AnoNatsu) also leaves the main character alone, in her own way.
Yuichi is a teenage boy who was diagnosed with hepatitis; and as staying at the hospital is boring, he often sneaks out at night to hang out with his friends. However, each time he is caught by the slightly sadistic nurse Akiko, he just prolongs his stay at the hospital. After his most recent escape, instead of striking a punch or kick at Yuichi, Akiko says that she'll overlook his sneak outs if he becomes friends with 17-year-old Rika, another hospital resident. Rika doesn't open up to him at first, but she has her reasons: she has a weak heart; and though she may come off as selfish and rude, Yuichi looks beyond the surface to help both of them enjoy what life has to offer.

They both are about love, but the main characters have hardships that are similar. They both have a bitter-sweet ending but many cute moments in between.
Both involve teenage love in the face of one of the partners with a serious, life-threatening illness. Both explore the growth of characters as they prepare for a possible future without each other.

Both have incredible music and a captivation story that you are just compelled to sit and watch through as you see the main characters develop in music and as people.
Chiaki and Nodame have both made it to Paris in pursuit of their futures as musicians. Chiaki begins his training as a world-class conductor and, in typical fashion, is quite successful; yet on the other hand, Nodame struggles as she starts to seriously learn about music for the first time. However, even though the two have worked tirelessly to meet the demands of their newfound musical lives, their relationship continues to progress slowly and frustratingly. Can Nodame and Chiaki balance both their new careers, and each other?

Both animes are personal favourites of mine. They both pluck at your heart strings and can get you both bawling your eyes out as well as enjoying a good laugh. Both have romantic elements, plot twists and are both generally entertaining and keep you hooked episode to episode.
At the end of her first year of high school, the main heroine, Futaba suddenly has a chance encounter with her first love, Tanaka Kou. Three years ago, he transferred schools before she was able to say how she felt about him. After meeting each other again, Futaba realizes that he has gone through many changes. He acts more cool and even had his last name changed to Mabuchi. Gradually the two rekindle their love while piecing together what had happened in the time that they were apart.
Both is about romance, comedy aspects and drama, with bits of tragedy both main characters develop throughout overcoming tragedy. Ao haru ride might have less drama though
Long ago, humans lived in the sea. However, some humans defied the Sea God and moved to the land, creating the division that now exists between Shioshishio, the Sea Village, and Oshiooshi, the village of the land. Now, four middle school students from the Sea Village, Manaka Mukaido, Hikari Sakishima, Chisaki Hiradaira, and Kaname Isaki must attend Mihama Middle School on the surface. While getting used to their new lives, these four and their new friend from the surface, Tsumugu Kihara, learn how true bonds of love and friendship can overcome any separation.
A group of friends, some subtle romance, emotional, fighting for a goal, two guys three girls, a not so normal school life, is a part of both these animes. Although there is some supernatural elements in nagi but then again, I suppose you could say there are some superhuman elements to Your lie in April. Oh and there is a guy in nagi that looks similar to a guy in Your lie in april, at least to me.
