AAAAH! I want to give this one a better rating. . I really really do.  I love a good solid fantasy setting, but the setting without the proper pieces just falls short.  Not to say that Utawarerumono didnt have some great aspects, but it just didnt quite meet my standards. So where to begin?  This anime started off with some great intruige.  I was immediately captivated.  great fantasy setting, neat character design, flashy animation, and solid music to boot.  maybe 3 episodes in, you start to realize that this is an episode of the day introduction to every character.  it took half the anime to introduce the main cast.  . . . . .  ouch.  This hurt the anime in terms of pacing, I almost stopped watching. I was so bored.  after the mid point it started to pick up.  The little hints of story that were thrown at you during the character intro episodes finally come to light.  Now, the first half was way slow, basically doing a filler + intro to character together.  In the second half, it was the opposite.  immensly important parts were glazed over in mere half an episode or an episode.  What the hell?!between the super slow, albiet meaningless character intros and super fast important info, you lose a TON of the meat of the story.  The characters became meaningless to me, the story wisped by without so much as a "hello world!"  and thenthere was the final episodeand the feels that came with itThat final episode tried to tie everything up and put a bow on it.  However it wasnt packaging a nice gift,  it was packaging a sloppy attempt and trying to redeem it.into my normal breakdownStory:  The underlying story was neat, but the execution was terrible.  When you have 24 episodes, you dont have time to spend 12 of those showing off a few minor characters.  Because of the terrible pacing and bad focus, 7.Animation:  super neat, very tight, well done. 9.5 Sound:  loved it, really brought out the fantasy flavor with a feeling of grandious adventure, which the story didnt deliver well.  9.5Characters:  heavily heavily heavily overused secondary and turshiary characters.  Again bad focus in the wrong places broke the immersion of the anime and turned it into every little b*tch characters problem.  I dont care.  Solve your problem during the main storyline you insignificant troll characters!!!which is too bad, because I thought the characters themselves were neat, but they were used badly. 7 Overall:  got a lower score because this anime had a ton to work with, and made waaaaay too many bad moves.  I couldn come to love it, the last episode was the only slightly redeeming factor.
