Undefeated Bahamut Chronicle

From the broken, charred pieces of the Arcadia Empire, a new kingdom arose. To protect itself from future foes, the new Kingdom of Atismata began training Drag-Knights to wield ancient mechanical dragons known as Drag-Rides. When Lux Arcadia, former prince of the ruined Empire, sights the new kingdom’s princess, Lisesharte Atismata, naked, she challenges him to a Drag-Ride duel, beginning an odd chain reaction that will expose the dark secrets of both royal families.

Well this anime wasnt one of my fav.... You start off with a male character who is running through an ALL girsl school, falls through the floor, into the bath of our main female. So lets use #2439 trope of anime. Boy falls into girls lap. And he continues to do this trope a million times throughout the anime.... In my opinion the harem part was not needed. Yes it added onto the story for this anime, but it could've been just as good as a male and female school where they were trying to see who could save the kingdom, not who could get Lux to fall in love with them the fastest. Then we have to add even more girls on top of the ones hes already got to deal with.Unessary Harem.... The story was pretty good. They explained everything except for why they have these giant mechs (how do they fly???) and they can appear when you summon them (how???) and they each have a unique ability to help them in battle (Again HOW????) But they are set in a medivial style universe. This makes no sense and bugs the crap out of me. Where is the rest of the development outside of the mechs??? And they can build more mechs and tweak them to how they need to. HOW???? None of that was explained.... The animation was pretty good, I saw it falter a few times but that was mostly during major fight scenes where the most action was taking place. The sound was good as normal. And I even recognized a few voice actors I knew. The characters were... Meh. I was more interested in the last female to join the group as she reminded me of Kurokami from Date A Live, so I automatically liked her.All of the girls (including her) are just about getting Lux to fall in love with them. We have next to no backstory on more than 3-5 characters and half of that even isnt explained... Which is just irritating...  Overall for the animation and story it was a good anime and I'd watch a second season but not the first again. One more question. How old are they? Some of them have boobs the size of their heads and best guess I have is that they are 10-15 years old. So I'mma go with "Japan"

Mixed feelings on this. Lets get the elephant out of the room right away. The concept is: incredibly stupid. Giant flying robot Dragon-Mech Knights in medival times, where chariots and horses are still being used as common modes of transportation is an extremely bizarre and out of place decision that makes less sense the more you think about it. Now to be fair this isn't a unique problem we haven't seen before (looking at you, Akame Ga Kill) so I guess its not a complete killer by itself. But it's a definite flaw and hole in the world building of this anime that you just kinda have to get used to. They could've thought this through a lot better.  The premise is almost identical to Infinite Stratos: boy gets placed in an all girls academy for piloting giant mech robots and has a harem develop around him rapidly. It really felt like someone decided to take I.S, twist the details a bit and boom - you got the Bahamut Chronicles.  However, what seperates this harem from other trash tier members of the genre was it's above average plot. It was dark, consistent, and had a meaningful villain all throughout it - which is pretty rare for most harem animes. Sure it was interrupted by fanservice every now and then, but that was expected: it's a harem after all. MC was fairly generic and dense but not terrible. I liked that he had sort of a dual personality between being essentially an innocent puppy and edgy bada$$, even if it's still pretty cilche. He both looked like and felt like a clone of Bell Cranel from Danmachi.  Now every other character was 1-1.5 dimensional and pretty much generic run of the mill harem girls by all means. The only notable one was the obvious Kurumi Tokisaki from Date a Live equivalent, but they forgot the part of Kurumi that made her so likeable: good writing and buildup. Having a sexy, edgy girl in the harem doesn't solve the problem if she is as flat an underdeveloped as the others. And unlike Kurumi, Yoruka never left much of a lingering mystery about her at the end to make fans want more. Other than the MC and the MC's mysterious brother that we slowly learn more about every episode, every other character in this show is so basic, bland, and boring. The animation and fight scenes were also pretty decent. Nothing special about the music or sound here though; pretty forgettable OP and ED.  Overall it's okay. Not good - definitely not winning any critique awards - but not bad either. If you can overlook the dumb concept of the show you can probably enjoy a fairly decent medeival-mecha-harem mashup that actually has a generally better plot than most in the harem genre. If you enjoyed Hundred or Infinite Stratos particuarly, then you'll most likely enjoy this show for generally being clones of each other with slight alterations.
