A story of a big soft tough guy... a CLASSIC! You're sure to love Gun X Sword if you liked Trigun. It has a man on a mission who wants to be alone but deep down loves the company... lol. Not to mention, Vash and Van Voth are badasses and make you laugh too.

arasin2758 arasin2758 says...

Trigun and Gun x Sword are alike in that their main characters are aloof towards others. The characters are different in attitude and have a comic relief-like personality, but still get very serious when it comes down to it.

caitlin caitlin says...

Both of the series are in a less common branch of science fiction: 'sci-fi western'. Both protagonists have a sort of split personality of sorts (switching, with the mood of the anime, from comedic to serious, frequently), and are looking for revenge. Also, in both, the female lead gets pulled into things, following the male lead around while he tries to push her away as he searches out the revenge he desires.

sloggerK sloggerK says...

Let's see... a few characters go from one vaguely western vaguely sci-fi town to another and have a showdown of some sort at every stop. Only this time instead of special weapons, there's special mecha and a few more characters joining the baggage train.

riseofanimal riseofanimal says...

If you enjoyed Trigun then Gun X Sword will be one you'll need to watch next. Gun X Sword, like Trigun has a sci-fi western theme. The both have a kickass character with at mysterious past. Gun X Sword's story is great and like Trigun leaves you begging for more.

bijanabrahim bijanabrahim says...

They both have very similary characters and both have a theme of being based on a planet which was colonized by earth and that the technology level is less than earth, but the main character is in possession of high level technology from earth.

anto13 anto13 says...

Both are in a futuristic western time set,and the main characters are focused on facing one special person with whom they have unfinished business

dragonballk dragonballk says...

Both of these Anime' feature a cowboy protagonist on a journey with 2 female companions, seeking revenge on someone who is responcible for the deaths of the women they cared for. Both Anime's have a western theme and take place on a planet that humans have populated after having to abondon earth. Both stories unfold in a series of one off mini adventures.

Epimondas Epimondas says...

Trigun and Gun X Sword have a similar steampunk western world setting and a similar lead character who has a techinologically advanced secret and power about them and a secret past they neglect to tell their cohorts about.  Both leads are seemingly despondent, disinterested, lazy, and yet extremely fast, skilled with weapons and hand to hand combat.

himurakenshin himurakenshin says...

If you like Trigun you will probably like Tylor too. Both are primarily comedy series, where the main character is the also the main source of humor. Tylor is a bit more laid back than Vash as can be seen in the title. Both are hilarious series with a great underlying plot and I strongly recommend both.

Paull Paull says...

tylor and vash are very similar.... they both look like idiots, but are they really?

VRDave VRDave says...

Another series with an immense underlying plot and a comical main character like Trigun would be Irresponsible Captain Tylor. The attitudes of both Vash and Tylor are similar and they seem to be incapable of anything really, but it so turns out they are very good at what they do.

Sphinx Sphinx says...

Both of these have a lot of action and adventure--and quirky main characters that you frequently think are insane or hiding something but like anyway.

They also occasionally make you think. But not too much.

Mirvra Mirvra says...

Both of these Series focuses on two very diffrent but just as irresponsible lead characters both are quite amusing to watch and you'll find yourself laughin out loud at a few times while watching Irresponsible Captain Tylor accidentaly giving a bomb to an enemy captain and also Smile when Vash the Stampede proves that he's fast enough to beat his enemy by loosing the bouttoms on her clothes, Both anime's are Diffrent though in the way they get serious making them not a guarantead enjoyment if you enjoyed the other anime's however their humor runs just as deep making them both worth a watch too try your taste

seraphim2000 seraphim2000 says...

These two series have idiots against the universe, but are they really as dumb as they let on? What seems like pure luck or just unnoticeable skill keeps them alive and kicking till the very end!

Renegadefalls Renegadefalls says...

Trigun and Tylor both feature main characters that are lazy and hillarious, but can be counted on when the time comes.

Both series feature a main character who would rather not get into a conflict though often find themselves having to do battle.

Both Trigun and Black Cat have a western type gun showdown. There are bounty hunters, deserts, and revolvers. Both main characters can be humorous at one point, then totally badass the next. If you have time on your hands I recommend to watch both you should not be disappointed.

KittyEmperor KittyEmperor says...

Both series feature a main character who will appear to be somewhat humorous in nature can quickly turn into a revolver wielding gunslinger who very few people can stand up to.  Both series also give off a very western type of feel to them but with some very advanced technology that wouldn't be found in the typical western.  Comedy and fairly nice gunplay make up the meat of both series and so if you found yourself enjoying one of these series then you may want to give the other a look.

HarioSagara HarioSagara says...

Gunslingers extraordinaire with unparalleled skills! Vash the Stampede and Train Heartnet! Both of these amazing gunslingers are wanted men who are being chased by a large variety of skilled adversaries. Strong groups of trained assassins with incredible powers are on the trail of both men and its up to them to stay one step ahead of the ghosts from their respective pasts. With the help of colorful and entertaining groups of friends and/or allies these heroes go through their lives with extra helpings of suspense and adventure with more than a fair share of good humor as well! If you enjoy anime about likeable heroes who continually overcome seemingly insurmountable odds then you'll enjoy Black Cat and Trigun.

Both have main characters who are sweet and funny and harmless-looking but can kick some serious butt with a gun. The main characters also both have a messed up past they are trying to fix and a group or organization connected to said past that they go after with determination that scares their frineds. If you liked one the other is worth checking out.

trashcan007 trashcan007 says...

Both feature gunslinging bad@sses who take on the philosophes of "restraint" in order to complete objectives that would normally require much more violent responses- which they are capable of administering.

The main characters both have strong ethical lines that they refuse to compromise on.

Reasons you might like Jing: King of Bandits...

VRDave VRDave says...

King of Bandit Jing has a very similar style to Trigun, as it's got strange bad guys and a hero with interesting powers and an interesting weapon. The very abstract settings also make them similar.

Rossko Rossko says...

Both series have main characters who are always the talk of the town due to their infamous background, but never live up to their expectations to the common folk. Then, of course, comes the big fight and the final moment when the bad guy realizes "it IS him!".

kamirura kamirura says...

bandits or heros? You also have a hard time placing Vash in a good sections? King of Bandits Jing is the same ;) Really similar settings filled with funny and exciting moments. Just like Vash is known all over Jing is, but just like Vash.. does he really live up to his reputation? Well better watch it to know ^^

sublime sublime says...

Stylish lead characters with great supporting characters make both Trigun and King of Bandits great watches. The comedy elements shown throughout both series don't overshadow the main story but keep it light enough so you don't get bogged down with heavy plots. Fun watches.

Orkyjork90 Orkyjork90 says...

At first glance, a bandit and a stampede don't have much in common.  However, if you take the time to dig deeper, you will notice a common theme.  That is, the questionable protagonist who seems to be a mastermind criminal disguising good deeds under the guise of foolishness that ultimately results in everyone they meet to take notice, and have an epiphany of sorts.  Be sure to note the action, comedy, and a smidgen of drama found throughout both.

Black Lagoon

Black Lagoon

Kidnapped, he discovers to his dismay that his employers' main concern is to ensure the documents don't get into the wrong hands, even if it means sending the carrier to the bottom of the sea. Now, with his former life ruined and his kidnappers seeming comparatively friendly, "Rock" decides to join their merry band of mercenaries, and sets out with a new career to the shadier corners of the South China Sea.

Aporias Aporias says...

In both Trigun and Black Lagoon, the protagonist is thrown into a world of definite corruption. Though common in the action, the series goes far deeper as both protagonists are stuck in this state of perpetual twilight. They are neither good nor evil, their actions are done through their own definition of justice. In general, Black Lagoon and Trigun show the complexities of obtaining a sense of salvation without the need of killing.

Sikk Sikk says...

Vash and his shambled crew have NOTHING on this rag tag band of social rejects. But if you liked Trigun, you will enjoy Black Lagoon. Though I am not sure that is truly reversible. As where Trigun is a long drawn out somewhat boring story, with repetitive situations, drab dialogue... and LOTS of that, with some really stupid "comedy" (what with the chibi elements)... Black Lagoon is a grown up series, with superb dialogue, excellent characters, funny comedy, and tolerable "chibi" abuse.

Don't get me wrong, Trigun is a decent series... And if liked it you will love Black Lagoon. I just can't in good faith "ensure" the same in regards to that situation flipped.

awpaperwings awpaperwings says...

Two high energy gunslinger shows that will take you for a ride and not want to stop. If you are interested in fast paced fast paced action in a somewhat episodic fashion then both of these shows are highly recommended. While their stories differ at the core, Trigun discussing the value of human life and Black Lagoon showing the daily life of a group of pirates in the world of crime, both shows are produced well, move quickly and have many enjoyable action scenes.

eaper eaper says...

If trigun were to be remade and put into present day, it would come out a lot like Black Lagoon. A lot of the same themes are there, a similar main character is around, and there is a lot of gun fighting in each.

Vash isn't similar to Rock, but Rock is similar to Wolfwood! Characters are similar, as they like to block problems from them, by deciding on what's just, and that they allow them to happen.

SingerOfWhiteLine SingerOfWhiteLine says...

Trigun and Gurren-Lagann develop in the same fashion. While beginning as comedy shows, they become action-packed in the middle and turn into drama in the end. This way, you can watch the development of characters in different situations – you can even see them learning from the mistakes done in the past. On top of that, both series tell a story about people living in the blasted world - and making their life better.

VivisQueen VivisQueen says...

Both Trigun and Tengen Toppa are excellent dystopic sci-fi which combine hilarious comedy, excellent developed characters you come to love, and a serious dramatic plot. If you're looking for inspirational protagonists and a pumped-up style, check out both of them.

KittyEmperor KittyEmperor says...

Either one is a great sci-fi anime with humorous comedy, interesting characters, and a serious plot make both series a very entertaining watch.  While TTGL does tend to focus more on the the whole mecha thing and Trigun has more of a western feel both series do well in their fields with the action being interesting and entertaining.  If you liked one then you should check out the other.

hamletsmage hamletsmage says...

One of the things that link these two animes is the dramatic switch the main characters make. While the fight scenes dominate the plot, they rapidly change from goofy shows of power to plot-laden battles. Both are set on a dystopian wasteland for the most part, with advanced technology centering in the plot

If you liked Gurren Lagann, you will love Trigun. Likewise, if you liked Trigun, you'll love Gurren Lagann. The general tone of both series is very similar; i.e predomently fun but serious when it needs to be. If you haven't watched either of these shows, then you are seriously missing out.

Great Teacher Onizuka

Great Teacher Onizuka

With a history of leading a motorcycle gang and getting bad grades in school, why would 22 year old Onizuka ever want to become a teacher? Is it to educate young minds or spread the joy of education? Sure, if it involves being able to look up high school girls' skirts! Watch as this would-be educator uses his own life lessons and unconstituted methods as a means to control a delinquent class of students -- students who certainly aren't as happy to have him as a teacher as he is happy to be teaching...

SlinkyABC SlinkyABC says...

This may seem like a really farfetched recommendation, but in reality they share a lot of aspects. Both Trigun and Great Teacher Onizuka include a fair amount of comedy while steadfastly introducing more and more of the plot. Also, the mannerisms of the two main characters Vash and Eikichi are similar, and in fact both of them have pasts that, though initially hidden, become focal points in the series as it progresses.

While GTO isn't as action-heavy as Trigun, if you can appreciate the character development and comedy of one, you very well might appreciate the other.

ea19gle ea19gle says...

The status quo doesn't mean everything is the way it should be. Both Onizuka and Vash want to change things for the better. Both have seen how bad things can be and hope to make the world better for the future and will never stop trying - which is why you will always root for them.

kilrothi kilrothi says...

Though they may seem to have nothing in common besides a crazy blond guy for the main character, GTO and Trigun are actually very similar. Character development, comedy, and action abound in both.

BearBot BearBot says...

Both feature strong willed oddly charismatic female crazy main characters with hidden pasts who backup their uncharacteristically strong morals in an highly unconventional fashion.  action drama off the wall comedy and sexual-tension fill these terrific shows if u like the one your sure to like the other.

Both Trigun and Wild Arms have a similar whacky style of humor and anime style plus both have a old west theme type of feel to them.  In both stories, two odd ball lady characters are constantly crossing paths with the main character and more often than not prove to be inept and/or incompetent to handle any trouble they find themselves in and thus often need the main character to help them out.  Though the ladies in Trigun seem a tad more competent than the ones in Wild Arms.  Both pairs of ladies have their own exceptional and unique skills they can bring to bear albeit if their clumsiness lets them pull it off successfully.  Both main characters rely on special weapons and a special blood line or inherit ability connected to weapons and combat skill well above and beyond any normal human given that both are a little bit beyond ordinary humans.  Trigun's main character is a tad more wacky and his special abilities veer a bit to the cyborg side of things while Wild Arm's main character deals with his soul or blood line more and thus a slightly more biological or spiritual angle than Trigun.  They both share a common theme however in how these unique qualities are connected to the story and their uniqueness and power.
