Gainer is a boy who has been playing a video game so much that he has finally secured the title of King. However, the next day he is falsely arrested for allegedly starting an Exodus – a journey to the mythical paradise known as Yapan. While in prison, fellow prisoner Gain offers to help Gainer escape, so with nothing to lose Gainer finds an Overman and makes his exit. However, in order to return the favor, Gainer chooses to further Gain’s cause: protecting the Exodus movement, even though Gainer’s parents were killed for their anti-Exodus ways…

Already, natural disasters are prevalent due to its ascension. In order to stop Orphen from obliterating humanity, the organization known as Novis Novah uses Brain Powerds to battle it, while Orphan searches for more plates and defends itself using Grand Chers. In the middle of this war is Hime, a girl who found and mastered a Brain Powerd on her own and joined Novis Noah, and Yuu, a boy who has served Orphan all his life but now decides to escape and fight alongside Hime. Can these two young people make a difference in this war? And what is the true purpose of Orphan?

Following a disastrous event known as "The Second Impact," humanity teeters on the brink of extinction. Having not completely eradicated mankind previously, creatures known as Angels begin attacking once more in an attempt to create a third, and final, catastrophe which will annihilate mankind once and for all. When conventional weapons fail to stop the Angels, however, the Japanese military organization NERV proposes the use of strange mecha called Evangelions. When the first Evangelion rejects its pilot, though, NERV's commander is forced to draft his estranged son, Shinji, as mankind's savior. Bitter of his father's estrangement and insecure in his abilities, Shinji struggles to overcome his doubts and fears in the face of certain death, but ultimately continues to fall short despite his efforts. As he slowly improves his skills, however, he must come to terms with the greatest question of all: is humanity worth saving after all?
